So we started on the online for the three Darwin films and I have decided to try the FCP > export EDL > import EDL into Color workflow for the grading of the films and I’m already running into problems.

Firstly as this wasn’t going to be my finishing workflow when I started the project so I haven’t kept all my RD3 files in the one folder and there are other folders in the project with qt's and images, so Color makes a real mess of importing the shots. There are only a couple of shots that are correct out of 28. I’ve tried moving all the RDM folders into the one folder but this doesn’t seem to improve anything. Also the loading time of the edl is incredibly slow over 15 min for a 3min sequence. I’ve just done a test on 4 shots from the front of this sequence and it’s the same time to source the clips and they are all still the wrong ones. I’ve just over 1TB on my video drives which are striped Raid 0. I initially did a test on one of the films and all the shots fell into place, now nothing seems to.

Am I doing something really wrong here? Do I have to clear out all other files apart from the RD3?

I have reverted back to my original plan of the FCP > Crimson > Redcine > Crimson > FCP workflow. But would like to get this Color workflow sorted so any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you use time code or edge code during shooting?

Erm not sure will have to check with cameraman, sorry very new to the whole red workflow. Redcine is saying edge and ext timecode...

What should it be for this workflow?

Phil

If you shot with the camera set to edge code the edl workflow doesn't work.

I don't think redcine can shows if it was edgecode or timecode in camera.
Once I've tested the edl workflow with shots shot with edge code in camera, Color wasn't able to reconform the edl making a complete mess. From my experience if you shoot with camera set to time code, build 16/17, if you number your shots correctly in camera (chronological order) and you keep your files path straight (one folder with all rdm inside) everything works fine.
