Hi.

I have a couple questions.

1. What should the timeline/sequence settings be set to in order to keep from having to render the 2K proxy files?

2. In FCP I can't find where the log and transfer window is? I don't see anything for RED proxy file import under the normal "log and transfer" window. I've tried the add file icon (normally used for P2 media)... but when I do the RED proxy files are grayed out.

thank you,
Michael

anyone?
I can't seem to get these proxy files to work in FCP without render.
Is there a thread buried here somewhere that can guide me through the process.
Sorry I know it's a boring kind of noob question.

to have no render bar you should set your timeline to redcode....but this makes no sense, if you want to export your timeline, since redcode is an aquisition format...

ergo....you will have always a render bar....
its a prores timeline
if the render bar is red
you should enable unlimited RT
now its orange....

but if you want to edit the proxies without pain, you should transcode them via compressor to Pro Res.
(if you want to use Crimson afterwards)

or get the log and transfer plug in from red.com/support
if you already have it, it should be no problem to log redfootage

Thank you . I just figured out the RT unlimited trick moments before reading your post. The bar is no orange.

I have installed the FCP Log and Transfer tool... but I can't figure out where/how to access it? Can you give me a quick run down step by step?
sorry i can't seem to find any documentation on the process.
thanks,
Michael

can anybody at RED answer this very simple question?
Is there a log and transfer thread?
there is absolutely no documentation on this feature.

Documentation on Log and Transfer is in the Final Cut Pro manuals. The operation of it doesn't significantly change with Red's plugin, it just allows the existing interface to see R3d files.

well when I use the log and transfer (like I have many times in the past) the proxy files are grayed out and can't be imported. there is no documentation in Apple help that outlines this process specifically for RED proxy files.

with log and transfer you should refer to the R3D files.

I thought R3d files weren't supported in FCP yet? Will try now.

ok. tried that too. Still nothing. The R3D files and proxy files are both grayed and unavailable.

Someone from Red care to lend a hand? I know this is simple.

You don't select the files directly. All you do is point the Log and Transfer load button (the one at the top left of the window) to a folder containing R3d files and they will load automatically. If that's not happening for you, then you either don't have the L&T plug in installed, are not running Final Cut 6.x, don't have the Final Cut Redcode plugin, or you're pointing to a folder that does not contain R3d files.
