Have searched the forums for a solution for this over the last hour- if this has already been answered, apologies.

Am having some trouble importing files via L&T on FCP.

Am running the latest FCP and all the latest RED codecs & L&T plugin etc.

When I go to import, the R3D file is greyed out and I cant select it. Have tried importing the entire folder the files are in, and the indavidual folders/files as well to no avail.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Cmd-Shift-8 should open up the Log & Transfer window - have you used it before? In there you add a volume with the top-left button - you select the .RDM folder.

Yeah, I have the L&T transfer window open, and using the add volume (top left button).

I'll check adding the RDM folder when I get back in the office again and see how I go though- have a feeling I would've tried it though.

Tried adding the RDM folder (have about 8 of them and tried them all).

Once I click OPEN the file window closes and it goes back to the L&T window with nothing in it.

Not sure whats going on, any tips appreciated.

Dblchck u have the ltst l & t says 003 & ltst qt redcode.
Sometimes just we make mistake since we have to install a lot of things.

Where do I check that?

See, that is the problem, so just reinstall from new downloads.

OK, just downloaded and re-installed. Nothing's changed.

This is the L&T window I get. Does the RED L&T look different from this?

Fang,

Yes, that is it. I did have similar issues with version 002, but with 003 at least it loads the files. If you have a lot of clips in the folder, then it will take some time to load them. What happens if you load just one folder? Still takes time?

Also, go into the preference window in the log and transfer window (the icon looks like a sproket) and see if there are some parameter choices for RED. If you don't see them, then maybe the L&T for RED is not loaded.

Hey Kaku,

There's not a great deal of clips in the folder. Have tried loading up individually to no avail. Just closes the open file window and goes back to the L&T window with no files in it, and none attempting to load up either.

Have got references to what it should transcode RED to in the pref window. ie: Pro Res HQ etc. Looks like it is loaded as far as I know.

I did hear of files not showing up with USB hard drives. Where are you clips saved? If you have it on USB drive then maybe move them to internal or RAID drives?

The files are stored on a RAID drive.

I'm listing what I'm using and you can see if you have any differences.

8 Core 3Ghz Mac Pro
Mac OS X 10.4.5
QuickTime 7.5
FCP 6.0.4
RED Code 3.1
Log and Transfer 003

Log and Transfer is working with Sonnet Fusion 400 single drives connected via esata connection through Sonnet PCIe esata card, internal drives (naturally), Areca ML1220 with Enhanced Tech's 8bay case.

Log and Transfer also working with same hardware configuration but with OS 10.5.2, QT7.4.5, too.

If you have extra drive, maybe install the whole system? I always run about four boot drives for validating versions (since I provide system integrations).

We've got a quad core mac pro running the latest leopard.

The scratch disk FCP is working with atm is an internal 1TB striped RAID.

Everything else looks the same.

What do you mean installing the whole system on another drive?

If you have a space to put a new or another volume, install new system, new FCP and new software for RED stuff and see if it works better. If it does, you can go into tranferring utility to copy things from the original boot drive.

Can you post *exactly* what your file structure is?

e.g. I have a CF card with:

digital.magdynamic.profile <file>
102-463-759M.log <file>
digital.magazine.profile <file>
A002_071969.RDM <folder>
A002_C001_0719US.RDC <folder>
A002_C001_0719US_001.R3D <file>
A002_C001_0719US_002.R3D <file>
A002_C001_0719US_F.mov <file>
A002_C001_0719US_H.mov <file>
A002_C001_0719US_M.mov <file>
A002_C001_0719US_P.mov <file>
... <there happens to be a bunch more RDC folders inside this RDM folder>

All clips on this card load fine through a USB CF card reader.

Craig

Uggh. looks like all the indenting gets removed so in my example anything marked as <file> is contained in the
item marked <folder> closest above it.

ah, file structure.

ah, file structure.

The sound of a light going on?

Yes, you must maintain the file structure as produced by the camera.
You can get rid of the .profile files (for now) and the proxies (L&T doesn't use them), you can even get rid of the .RDM folder if you really want to (but there is no good reason for this and it isn't recommended) but you must maintain the structure of RDC folders containing R3D files. You must also keep the _00n suffixes on the R3D files (I've seen cases where people post clips with informative file names removing the numerical suffix) as this is how the software detects clips that span files (yes, even if there is only 1 R3D file you must keep the _001 suffix on the file.)

Maybe someday we'll come up with an algorithm to allow the camera to give clips names like DOG_CATCHING_FRISBEE.R3D based solely on scene content but until then, structure and naming conventions are critical.

I keep everything exactly how they are so never had problems.

But while we are at it, I want to ask one thing. If REDCINE looses location of the original R3D files, then when you open the .rcn project won't fine the clip and open empty clips but the metadata infos (that edited with REDCINE), is there a way to relocate the
R3D files, so I don't have to copy the color preset one by one?

You should ask this one in the REDCINE forum.
