maybe a stupid question ... or i am to dumb to find a solution ;-)

i have the following setup:
final cut pro 6, connected to two monitors via dvi.

i am working on the main monitor LEFT (connected to dvi port 1) and want to use the RIGHT monitor connected to dvi 2 as digital preview monitor out of final cut (because the right monitor is the better monitor)

when i switch to digital preview the main monitor left goes into fullscreen to preview the picture.

when i re-arrange the monitors in the system preferences the right monitor becomes my main monitor and it works when i move the timeline, browser, etc to the left monitor - but the menu stays on the right monitor.

it kinda works, but i don't like this workaround, because i would love to keep timeline, browser, dock, menus LEFT and preview RIGHT.

any thoughts? what am i doing wrong?

kind regards,
martin

change the monitors (fisical) place. :)

now serious, in system preferences-monitors-aliniate ) I don´t now this worrd in english but is betwen screen and color, you can drag the monitor you want to your desired side.

vico,

thanks for chiming in on this slightly off-topic ...

but then i would have to look from the right side to the left side and i would prefer to look from the left side to the right side ... am i narrow minded?

;-)

regards,
martin

In the 'arrange' pane of display prefs you can also drag the menu bar from one monitor to the other

In FCP when you have two monitors connected to say a MacPro, you will have your choice of which monitor you choose to display your full frame desktop preview under, View, Video Playback. In this menu option you should see 4 different options, Choose Digital Cinema desktop Preview - Full Screen. It should be the 3rd option down the list.

You can now preview on your right side monitor and keep the FCP UI in the left or switch it around, whatever you choose. Make sure "All Frames" is checked as well in View, External Video, All Frames.

This should solve your issue.

hi mike,
thanks for your feedback - i have the apple cinema display connected to the DVI 1 of the mac pro, the eizo connected to the DVI 2 of the mac pro.

strange: if i go to the list (VIEW-> VIDEO PLAYBACK) i have many options (aja kona3), but only one option which says "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview".

if i choose this option i see the full screen playback on the DVI 1 - where i also have the FCP UI. the right screen (DVI 2) only shows the desktop wallpaper.

regards,
martin
