Ok so we have just received our new M-X sensor for one of our RED One. Any resources for getting this footage loaded into Color/FCP? Beta plugins- etc.

Noah

Hey Noah,

I have been working with some of the new (MX) footage and I must say the Red Cine X build 221 (Even in Beta) is stellar... I must say that this software has really turned the corner in the last 6 months and I believe the whole Post Pipeline will shift because of it. Red is not only selling us amazing cameras at very reasonable prices, they are giving us Post Production tools that should cost thousands of dollars. If you are having any issues please post and I will try to help sort them out. I am constantly amazed by the new material pushed through this new pipeline. I am blown away at the amount of added control this software has given us on older footage. I think the gravity of a RAW workflow is now more visible than ever.

There are some XML to LUA scripting tools emerging that help the workflow getting condensed FCP to Redcine-X working. Clipfinder is supporting this workflow now. I haven't had MX footage to work with but I have used the latest camera build, which Red says will not look correct in Redcine... so these new tools are helpful.

I like this guys scripts too... http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=42478

I agree 1000% that something needs to be done in terms of a beta-version of the support download page, which as it has been for years now, is also mostly "beta" release software. Why Red has taken to posting downloads in links on the forum only is less than helpful. Does it take that much time to put it in one place? Throw us a bone.

Noah, thanks for updating the resources.
We just shot our first low light MX tests, for an upcoming feature.
Candlelight only really works well.
We got great results, looking forward to the new color science and FLUT™.
Any info on the new software and workflow is appreciated.

Just a small note.

Noah. All of the software you mention applies to RED M and RED M-X footage equally. There is no "special" software for the M-X sensor.

Huh ? David !

Unless you're running one of the beta softwares (RedcineX, QT plugin, Color plugin) mentioned by Noah in the first post, you do not have access to the new Color Science introduced with the M-X and build 30 of the camera firmware. Of course these softwares are also backwards compatible with Red-M and pre-build 30 footage, but I would say there is "special" software for M-X footage, they are the beta versions of the above mentioned software, for now.

Cheers,
Damien

That hasn't been my experience. So far those are the only apps that will properly load M-X footage. Try and load on FCP or Color directly and you have issues. That's why I asked in the first place. But if you have some first-hand M-X experience you'd like to share that would be great.

Sorry Noah,

Are you saying you are not able to load MX footage with these frameworks loaded? Are you trying to load 4.5WS footage?

David

What RED software, including the software on the RED.com site, is NOT beta?

of course it is not special at all.
