I'm sure this has been answered before but for the life of me I can't find an answer. So I'm editing on a Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz with fcp 6.0 and I'm trying to edit with the M proxies. (I plan on using crimson). Anyways every time I try to do any kind of effects or render I get a green screen filling the whole screen. Is this because the footage is raw and it won't let me? Does anyone know a way around this or are the proxies just good for straight cuts and nothing else? Meaning I can't work with any effects, fades, dissolves, etc?

hi

1 update to FCP 6.0.3
2 RT menu set to med/low quality
3 set sequence compressor to Prores

you should play all clips in real time [green or orange render bars] in the timeline.

have a good one

The Redcode quicktime component is currently a one way decoder. It can't create new Redcode. So if your sequence is a Redcode sequence there is no way for final cut to create new footage i.e. render files.

The solution is to either transcode your proxies first to Prores or use a Prores sequence with reference files. The first takes some time upfront, the second has some performance penalties. Crimson can handle either method, as long as the original filename is part of the filename of your transcoded files.
