Hi everyone-
I'm hoping to find an answer to the option in Red Rushes (or Clipfinder for that matter), where you are given an option for the Reel name to be Full or FCP 8 Character.
Is the FCP option for creating a CMX 3600 EDL so the reel name isn't truncated in the edl? I do get an EDL with what appears to be all the relevant info of the RDC directories. Or am I getting all the relevant info? Is this what can be used to send an EDL from FCP to a film lab for a conform for a film-out (whether we create the DPX's or whether the lab does the DPX creation). The real question is- can the lab read this EDL properly to reconnect to the DPX files or the R3D's?
And if we're simply supplying the R3D's and an EDL, the EDL contains info about the RDC directories, not the RDM directories they live in. Is this enough info for the lab? Will they be able to access the right directories?
I'm not doing a film conform right now, but trying to research the options. Of course we should talk to a lab before shooting, coordinate with them in advance, but this is premature. Right now I'm just trying to see if we can generate a proper EDL that can be read on other systems.
Even if we wanted to do an HD conform on a completely different system (for color correction, online), and not a film-out, it seems the issue would be the same. We still need a good EDL and a way to access the proper R3D's.
Sorry for the long entry. Thanks for your time and input.
