Hi folks,

Work as technician and filmmaker in university setting. Apple finally got us our serial number / redemption codes for a volume installation.

Running a networked computer lab with network logins (Xserve). Apparently FCP X cannot see network volumes, only local volumes?

Is there any way around this? If not, FCP X is completely unusable in a network environment situation.

What a mess.

FCP X doesn't see events and projects on network volumes. It can, however, import (either via copying or referencing) media from network volumes.

It's fairly easy to see, from a technical perspective, why this is the case. The way FCP X works with events/projects would make it easy for multiple clients to clobber each other's data. I would be surprised if Apple weren't working on locking mechanisms to prevent this. This seems like classic 1.0 feature omission. Apple reportedly said at the London briefing that Xsan support was coming in the next few weeks, which would seem to require solving these problems.

Chris,

The user home dir is om the network volume. Fcx doesnt see it. Doesnt see any automounted network share. As such its impossible to even create a new event or a new project.

Cant do anything at all with a networked user home directory.

This is just plain BAD.

thanks for your input though.

I have Fcp-X installed on a network environment and it seem that the Import function works... (See the screenshot)

Hope this help...

Thanks for posting this.

Are you logged in locally, or did you use a server served user login?

If you are using a network login, can you create a new project/event on your desktop, or any network storage volume?

Thanks for this.
