  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fatal Flaw

Great footage guys. I've been messing around with RedAlert! and Redcine and can get pretty similar results, grading and processing is definitely an important part of the RED chain, but you really need to get a good exposure before anything else.

You guys nailed it.

:)

BTW never use RED DRIVES while shooting in the air..just got back from some chopper shooting, drop frames like mad, use the CF cards, redcode28 4k 2:1 only. ;) word of warning from the now wise.

good thing it was a "test shoot" before the "real deal" :)

Looking FAB!!! I'm luminescent green of jealousy, why can't I do that kind of footage...

you can. It starts with the study of awesome work that inspires you, then you gotta have an eye for it. I like to think that one day we will get to the level of the very very best. so much to learn and so little time to do it in :)

Our love is in Dramatic, that is our direction from here going forward with a passion. We will, however keep doing commercial work to keep our rents paid and the camera accessories flowing in... :)

I have a few minutes to post a picture or two. These are frame grabs from a camera, not a Red.

Don't use red drives when shooting at locations with loud music either. The base makes the drive vibrate and you will have dropped frames like crazy. I found this out the hard way. The dropped frames seemed to come in rythms :)

I experienced this last night for the first time. Actually, it wasn't even rock concert loud, but there was lots of bass.

Thanks for the pos feedback guys.

We have some additional images and BTS photos up on the official site.

Thanks.

My wife, daughter, and I drove up from Georgia to be extras in the movie. You guys were great to work with and have a great eye for what you want to achieve. It was our first time and we would love to do it again. It was a pleasure.

Amariah,Obin.........you guys rock! This is the best footage to date by a very very long way from the Red Camera..(sorry Macgregor & Fredric C..fantastic work)These examples demonstrate a perfect understanding of exposure control and a "Previz" knowledge of what and how you are going to achieve the "look" in post.If Jim Jannard has re-invented the wheel then you are the first to use it as it was meant to be.....Rollin....(unlike the opening "Apes and Obelisk" scene in "2001")...this is a new cinematic benchmark for the Camera.
I understand the euphoria and eagerness to exhibit and upload work, but everything looked the same,it became saturated and homogenized.
Like most "users' i need a "fix" and most of the Red material was not hitting its "marks".......until now.

P

ps: Amariah, if you did only use "Redcine" to "One light" keep it a secret. What you have is unique.........keep it that way.

Wow, what a drive! and thanks a ton for the help.

philastbury:

We've grown up pushing digital/24p/HD far beyond where it should ever go...
Building one of the first(affordable) 35mm lens adaptors(out of sheet board and gaff tape)...
Programming our own uncompressed Bayer2k camera using Machine Vision cameras(with a programmer out of Mexico to save on costs) a couple of years before the RED...

Since I do the lighting and Coloring, I can light for the colortime.

Of course when Jim came out with all the resources in the world and developed one of the the worlds best cameras... Well, game over.
The RED makes it so EASY. Way less post work to get the footage to look incredible.

Def for redusers...:)

McGee...ROCKIN man, but it got loose on this shoot....and I can't figure out how to fix it!!!
