So today I shot a fashion commercial side by side with a stills photographer while he shot the print campaign. Worked out fairly well.

This was all natural lighting.
These stills are random ones from the 250GBs I shot in total.
Contax Zeiss lenses coupled with the 70-200 canon. All done on a trusty monopod.

I'll post a few more frame grabs as I look into the footage a little bit more.

These have had a light dusting in Resolve. Nothing crazy.

Great shots, esp for all natural light. Any noise reduction?

Which monopod, and what battries - redvolt or a brick?

I'd love to see the some r3d's and the finished film.

second to last image is magic. the simultaneous fashion film where all eyes and focus are on the stills is a tough set, nicely handled.

Patrick, these look great. Which Contax glass? The 28 f2 like you said?

These stills look absolutely stunning dude.

Not trying to take away from Partick's work. Nor the value of lighting. But since day one I've just been so impressed by the natural light footage you can get out of these sensors. Wondering how others feel?

Maybe it's my Aussie background, but I have always loved the colder muted palettes of RED as opposed to the more saturated love that Alexa/C300 gets. That's not a comment on the cameras at all. I'm well aware most see it the other way around. It's just my own personal preference. And yes of course you can get to wherever you need to get with RAW anyway and RC3/RG3 are terrific. But I actually still love the less saturated RC2 and that 3rd shot of Patricks is an aesthetic I really love and is classic RED to me.

For my tastes it seems RED's DR and sensor/colour science really seems to lend itself to natural light more so than most digital footage that I see, I think a lot of it is to do the highlight roll off. Or maybe it's growing up living in dusty old houses with that white sheening light we get :)) Anyhow, I definitely prefer it to poorly lit/overly lit/overly saturated stuff I sometimes see. It's less is more to me in such instances. And if you want to do more. Great, but the more skilled/patient you need to be. Or you just over paint your canvas and ruin your picture.

Hope this not too off thread Patrick. Always enjoy your posts.

Best

Yea I got pretty lucky.

The photographer and designers were all on board with the motion concepts.

Sometimes these can be pretty hairy sets to work.

The manfrotto 561 has no issues supporting the weight of the scarlet?

Any chance for .r3ds? Did you post those sweet purple/pink beach shots last week? And the high iso shots (ISO5000?) from a fashion show a couple months back?

Sorry Mike no chance of .r3ds on this one.

I didn't post the beach shots last week but I did post the high ISO shots from the fashion show.

I am putting together a quick teaser piece with clips that didn't make the actual spot. Should be done by tomorrow.
