Today was the second time that I've had my Red's internal fans turn off and a heat warning turn on. Tried to change the settings in the menu to hot or anything else and it didn't do any good. A power cycle didn't help either as the fans didn't even turn on when the camera is booting. Got home and booted up the camera and the fans now work. Good thing I was just shooting stock footage today.

The first time this happened was out on set a couple months ago for a job that I rented my camera out to. Same problem as I was having today. Kept having to turn the camera off for 10 minutes at a time to give it time to cool down. When the camera shut off from overheating and was booted back up the fans worked. I guess the guys over at Red forgot to shake the fan gremlins out of my camera.

BTW I'm running Build 20 but this happened on Build 17 as well.

Sounds rough. Probably something simple in hardware. At least you're in Burbank and can get your camera to/from Red. Sounds like it would be worth it.

My cam would be gone a few weeks if I did that from Sydney! :yikes:

Yeah, I should just go down there and have them look at it. What really sucks is that my warranty is done. So this would have to come out of my pocket. I'm trying to devise a way to have an emergency fan that I could just put on the side of the camera to blow air through it. Having ice packs out when I'm just shooting isn't very practical. But since this has happened I have some in my kit just incase. They only get cold on set.
