Hello,i've owned a Scarlet For a year an just did an upgrade to the Epic. I shoot a lot of documentaries so fan noise is really an issue for me. What i notice is that the epic is less quiet than the scarlet. When shooting with the Scarlet in adaptive mode the lowest fan speed the scarlet gave was 12% or 14%. But the Epic does got go lower than 18%. This is a big difference when shooting an interview in a small room(2x3m). Does anybody have the same experience?both camera shooting on 4Khd with the same compression rate and the fan update kid. So it is really the same setup and the fan speeds are measured when the camera is not jet at the target temperature. So no reason for extra Cooling. Thank, Aage

I've updated to the latest firmware and now the epic fan speed goes down to1 2% again.

My guess is that the extra processing power of the Epic (yes, the sensors may be the same but the ASICs are more robust) means that it requires more cooling.

Hey Terry,

That would also be my guess, but even when the temperature is really low the fans won't go under 18%.
I would love to see this changed in a firmware update. It looks like a smal difference but if you hear it, it's a big difference.

If fan noise is a real concern for you, you should really upgrade to the DSMC FAN 2.0 (http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc-fan-2-upgrade-kit-top-bottom). I got it with my Dragon upgrade and it's amazing. As a test, I left my camera on a tripod and rolled through three full 256GB cards and the fans were dead silent the entire time, even when I cut between cards. If you're used to the hair dryer effect with the old fans, it's really kind of shocking to see how quiet the new fans are.
