Fake Arri Tungsten,

Hi,

I got a real Arri lighting kit (2x300w + 2x800w) and i'm interested to extand my kit (but not my wallet) with this chinese "as Arri" Kit : http://www.ebay.fr/itm/3PCS-650W-Tu...37?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4d09f19f15

Of course i know i will not have the Arri quality but i'm interested by your feedback or your feeling about this. It will make the job for the price or not?

The tungsten lights are fine. I wouldn't anticipate having any problems with them, unlike HMI's the mechanics of these lights are very simple, there really isn't much that can go wrong with these. The LED panels are hard to judge without testing them. LED lights are prone to green spikes, have lower CRI, and don't react great with filters, but I've seen some nice results even with cheaper LED panels.

In my testing the tungstens have performed well, HMI's not so much. Had one fry on me. LED's have quite a bit of green spike, especially with the MX sensor, though there are some that fine.

Patrick. You'll likely find them to be well adequate but keep an eye on the wiring connectors for loosening, especially inside where they are heat-cycled. The in-cable switches may come apart by pulling threads. You may need to examine putting a limit stop on the lampholder carriage movement to stop the globe from moving too close to the Fresnel glass, cooking it a bit hot and cracking it. Lamphouse fasteners will need to be periodically checked and tightened due to heat cycling loosening them. The lightweight stands may be another matter depending on brand and source. You will need to take care not to overtighten the thumbscrews on the extending columns. In the quest for that extra inch of extension, sooner or later someone may pull a section out, leaving its rubber endcap, coil spring and clamping plate dropped down inside the column. Once the little clamping plate drops inside, then the exposed bare end of the thumbscrew is going to punch holes and dents on the thin walled columns pretty quick. Richard Andrewski ( Cool Lights ) may have addressed this issue so a check with his outfit prior to buying in from offshore may be worthwhile.
