I am extremely pleased to let everyone know that our RED cameras have started rolling on Doug Liman's new film "Fair Game" starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts.

Directing and shooting himself, Doug is back as the double threat he demonstrated early in his career - serving as both director and cinematographer on his films SWINGERS and GO.

Offhollywood is providing a "cameras-to-completion" package providing Red cameras, technical support, data management, post services and finishing.

This film is being shot 100% on RED ONE Digital Cinema Cameras using Arri Master Primes with some additional b-roll using the Canon 5D.

The drama following the life of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson, "Fair Game" stars Naomi Watts in the lead role of the real-life undercover CIA agent whose identity was illegally revealed in 2003.

Plame's status as a CIA agent was revealed by White House officials allegedly out to discredit her husband after he wrote a 2003 New York Times op-ed piece saying that the Bush administration had manipulated intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Great news man. Excited to see this one. Good work.

Congrats! A movie deserves to be made about that scandal. Excited to see RED will be in action on it.

RED is "arriving" much faster than I believed it would.

We are certainly proud parents... thanks.

Wow..

Congrats Mark and OffHollywood!

We are all proud to have Liman, Watts and Penn on the R1 users list.

Awesome news - congrats!

I wonder what that production package costs :cute:

The 2-Red camera package is less than a single 35mm feature camera package and when combined with dailies & post - the whole package is MUCH LESS than shooting on 16mm (they shoot as much as 5+ hours per day of Redcode).

Nice... congrats Red on getting Sean Penn fresh from his statue!
Same for OffHollywood too, of course.

I really enjoyed both Swingers and Go.

I'd say shooting the first project that a lead actor/actress academy award winner decides to shoot after holding up the Oscar means that it safe to add the "ed" behind "arrive".

Not to mention #1 at the box office with KNOWING! Not a bad month for the camera company they all laughed at.

And a sincere thanks for the congrats - it's a huge payoff for the entire Offhollywood team - there have been a lot of long hours, late nights and weekends dialing in all things RED over the past year +.

We are also proud parents.

Yea... I guess now I can't get pissed at you when you finally call me back. You have a decent excuse. xP

LOL! Yeah ... I'm REALLY in the "dog house" with respect to getting back to lots of folks - we are increasing in staff and next week will FINALLY have a new voice mail system with private extensions - so ... I'll get back to you ... PROMISE.

EDIT: FYI for all, this is for next winter. I am only joking about the call back.

i looked at a 5D last week for a project, can it be converted to 24p? does it look okay?

Doug is the kind of guy that when the crew is at lunch - he wants to run off by himself and shoot something. I'm sure he is going to be the "poster boy" for the new EPIC DSMC camera from Red. The 5D is NOT being used for sync, principal stuff - only b-roll - POV, establishing shots, etc. Doug does this on all his films - there is a P2 shot in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. We are NOT doing any frame interpolation - 5D 30p material goes frame for frame into the 23.98 pipeline - so that material plays a bit slower. A non-issue, as again, it's not being used for sync stuff.

The first time we projected 5D test footage after putting it into DPX and through Scratch - Pliny (our Director of Post/Ops & DI Producer) and I were pretty shocked how decent it looked. Doug shot car-driving POV stuff in a snow storm in Boston at night - and after DI - it it held up and looked pretty damn cool with the exception of a bit more clipping than you want. The highlights really clip FAST - because, as you know, the lack of manual control while shooting the H264 really handicaps it and the skew is pretty rough depending on movement - but for grabbing a b-roll shot here and there - it's just fine.
