extreme lag in infrastructure mode

Setting up a wifi router to extend wifi range of the camera, I notice extreme lag on picture stream, about 1 frame per second. But adhoc mode works fine close to camera. There is no problem with signal strength or bitrate with the wifi router, I see that the bitrate maxes out at around 5Mbps, but wifi bandwith is about 150Mbps. What is the culprit here? Any router settings to make this work?

I'm no IT expert, but if you have ADHOC, doesn't that mean a direct connection, i.e no "middle-men". But when using infrastructure, it needs to go through a router so it's one more step between all packets sent?

That is true, the traffic bounces through the router. But since the packets travel at 80-150 Mbps that shouldn't have an impact in theory. There is something going on with the live stream, the live stream doesn't "bounce" very well. I am hoping an expert could chime in what can be done in the router to make that work better. The router has advantages, it is always on there are no disconnect and reconnect issues, and it blankets the entire location with a strong signal.

A question for Red: What is the best MTU setting so packets don't get fragmented?

So I looked at the wifi situation with an analyzer and found something very strange:
When in infrastructure mode the Komodo is flagged as an access point, and it actually doesn't send traffic to my wifi router. It does show up as a client in the wifi router but it doesn't talk to it. It looks like the two are fighting each other. Only a few packets get through now and then. No wonder this doesn't work.
Switching back to adhoc mode. Now the Komodo wifi type is listed as "Infrastructure" when it is acually ad-hoc mode. It still works though.
Something is seriously messed up and I hope Red would give it some attention.
Or maybe its just me being messed up, but I sure like to see it working...

Did anybody else try infrastructure mode with a separate wifi router? Any success?
I am currently using Ubiquity Nanostation Loco M5 as access point, with a separate network router on the LAN side.
After further research it seems to be an incompatibility with the Nanostation, since this model is primarily designed for point to point connections.
I am going to try a Ubiquiti access point UAP-AC-LR which has dual radios - and fingers crossed.
