I use a regular TV as my external monitor from Premiere Pro. However, I can't get anything to show up on this monitor with my RED footage. I have firewire going out from my computer to my Panasonic mini-DV deck, then to my TV. It usually works fine, but not now. I read somewhere that this is because the RED footage is HD. Is there anyway I can utilize my external TV monitor?

Have you tried setting your sequence to SD?

I've looked, and can't seem to find the way to do that. By any chance, can you please explain how to do that? thank you.

FW doesn't transport any HD-format other than DVCProHD in realtime. And a DV-deck won't show that anyway, only a DVcProHD-deck.

You may need a professional I/O-card, like AJA or BlackMagic. The chepaest (but not most precise) solution is the Intensity from BlackMagic. Careful, it doesn't accept all progressive formats!

UPDATE: I got my regular TV monitor working fine. I didn't have to buy any special hardware or video cards. In Premiere Pro, I simply went into "Sequence Settings/Playback Settings," and changed "External Device" from "none," to "DV: 23.976 720 X 480p."

Works great!
