So I have been working on multiple red projects over the past couple of months and I cam across a problem that I have been having trying to view my dallies in the viewer and my sequence on my external monitor.
Here are my Specs

1. Mac Pro Dual 2.8 Ghz
2. 10gb 800MHZ Memory
3. Kona 3 Card
4. Black Magic Intensity HDMI editing Card

5. Samsung 32" LCD

Now let me tell you what I have done...
1. I was working with 1920x1080 23.98 ProRes files and Sequences and the playback would work on the external monitor when using the HDMI Card as the out to export to the monitor, then I received 2048x1024 ProRes files and they did not play back on the monitor. Though the image would show up as a still wherever the editing scroll was. That is Problem One.
2. So we tried to use the Kona 3 card and using the component out to hook up to the monitor and the mode is not supported, with making all the settings in FCP the right export settings. Will work if on a dumbed down sequences
3. We bought an extra video card and installed it to use the monitor as a third monitor, but found out the monitor cannot go above the 1920x1080 setting and it would not playback the footage at fullsize on the monitor.

My gut feeling is that the monitor cannot handle the footage at 2048x1024.
I know I can dumb down edited sequences to be screened at 1920x1080, but that doesn't help me when it comes to watching stuff in the viewer.

If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks for taking the time to read the post and possibly help me out.

Thanks

I've read that Kona3's version 6 drivers that just went out did actually convert the 2K signal to full Hd at the exact resolution, thus making it viewable on an full hd monitor. Maybe trying out those new drivers could be a direction to investigate.

good luck
