We own two Red Ones (#2634, 2635) which perform brilliantly for us. Obviously the features of Epic-X look incredible, but at this stage we can’t see a great need for Epic-X (for us)—we shoot talking heads in fixed, bright lighting at 25fps on a fixed set in a studio. We don’t shoot on location; nor does our project require slow motion. We use Cooke MkII 25-250mm zoom lenses so the smaller form factor of Epic-X compared to Red One is basically irrelevant—as anyone who has used these lenses know, they are a beast. Further, the purchase of two Red Ones was a very significant expense for our small organisation.
We are now eligible to enter the Stage 2 upgrade path for Epic-X, but as is explained above, we don’t feel we need, or can justify the expense, of Epic-X. Our current view is that we will retain our Red Ones and buy Scarlet when she becomes available. However, we feel that just because we don’t need to take advantage of the Stage 2 Epic-X upgrade path, we shouldn't deny other filmmakers that same opportunity. Accordingly, we are open to expressions of interest for two Stage 2 Epic-Xs.
Please PM enquiries.
