So I have a selection of clips graded in RCX and am ultimately trying to export to ProRes for a Final Cut workflow. Every clip I export however looks vaaaaaastly different from what RCX shows. Far more muted, lower sat, lower contrast. I've tested 422 and 422HQ, both with Auto Gamma Correction on and off. It all looks the same. How do you export ProRes without killing your grade?

Many thanks

use export quicktime movie

click the box make self contained

uncheck recompress all frames.

this will build the quicktime in a fashion where it's more like assembling the source files together. using quicktime conversion re compresses the image, and you run into quicktime gamma/color issues.

Hmm... I think you're referring to an export from Final Cut? I'm trying to export a ProRes from RCX and it doesn't have these options.

While creating the EXPORT settings, in VIDEO SETUP set GAMMA CORRECTION to NONE and your files should be pretty close to how they look in RCX. There may still be a slight difference in contrast but you can compensate with a 3-color corrector.

Thanks for posting Ian - just cracking into CineX now and this would have made me jump in front of a truck...

I don't seem to have this issue... just tried it then.
I wish I was sitting with you, I'd find you problem in a sec... Must be one little box you not ticking.

Hello everybody,
I am also still fighting with the Prores Export out of redcine-x (pro):
- I make some minor adjusments in REDCINE-X PRO, the dop is watching both on an EIZO and an ASTRO connected to the red rocket and is happy
- I render Prores422 out of REDCINE-X PRO (no gamma correction) and the PRORES file looks much darker / almost crushed blacks.
Any suggestions what I am doing wrong?
best wishes and kind regards,
martin

...having the same issue on my system as well. I adjust the footage just how I want it, but on export all the color washes out and I am left with a very flat result. I have found that I need to pump up the saturation and over compensate RCX (Making the sample look like a bad acid trip) to get the output close to the look I was after. Very frustrating. I am sure it is something I am doing wrong, but I have tried so many different combinations on export.....I feel like I am so close ...

This image/Footage is from RCX-P

just for the record:
I switched to render Quicktime with Avid DNxHD 115 codec - the quicktimes look the same (if opened in quicktime player 7) as the monitor output of the rocket ... weird, but it works.

best wishes and kind regards,
