Exporting Mulitple Clips using REDLine fails

Hello All,

I have searched a little and didn't find my specific issue, sorry if it's on here and I just didn't find it.

I have 23 clips in my timeline, all color corrected and ready for export. If I select to export multiple clips using REDLine software, I can see in the export window, the program scrolls through each clip (4 at a time) and "exports" in one moment each. Then the output folder is empty and the entire export took 5 seconds or so. If I unselect the REDLine option, the export works just fine, just one clip at a time.

Total newcomer to Redcine X Pro so feel free to tell me the solution is easy and I'm being dumb, as that would be a easy solution to the problem.

I'm in REDCine X Pro 30, on OS X 10.8.5 iMac 3.2 GHz Core i5 with 8 GB RAM

Jeremy,

There is a bug with that in REDCINE-X Build 30 that will be addressed in the next update. However, you probably don't want to use that REDline export option. Using REDline in that way does not utilize your GPU and your transcodes will be much slower.

Grant,

Thanks for the reply. So, as I understand it, the bug is my current problem, but assuming the bug gets fixed, I still should not export using REDLine as it will actually be faster to encode single clips using the GPU.

If I have if correct, don't reply.

Basically, yeah. Redline, among other things, allows the processing of multiple clips simultaneously. But it only utilizes your CPU. Great if you have no Red Rocket, no GPU acceleration (which is only a few months old), and a lot of CPU cores. Like an 8 or 12 for Mac Pro or high end PC. Redline has been around for years.

But as the technology and the ecosystem has evolved, it's sort of become a (mostly) vestigial limb.

In general, you are now better off processing clips one at a time and utilizing the GPU, than you are processing clips 2-6 at a time and ignoring the GPU. Are there exceptions to this? Absolutely. But they are getting rarer and rarer, so the best advice is to turn off Redline and turn on GPU utilization and then hit export.
