Hello All,

I am wondering what the most efficient way to export a 4k 23.976 timeline to Blu-Ray. The length is about 90 minutes (feature length). I am able to complete the process now without any problems, but I am looking to speed up the encode. A couple options I am looking at are the Elemental Accelerator 2.2 and also the Matrox Max card.

Any thoughts on the fastest process with an eye toward quality?

Thanks
Ray

I believe that was supposed to be one of the big advantages, if not the biggest, of the Quadro card. (I didn't spend the money, so I can't say how good it is.) I understand the problem though. It takes my system about 30 hours to encode a BluRay from the timeline.

I just bought a Matrox CompressHD from Torrey at Silverado Systems and the card is amazing. It's very fast, and very high quality. When I find some time, I'll do a write up of it, but just know that it really is all it's cracked up to be.

I wonder what has the higher quality vs speed? The Elemental Plugin or the Matrox Card?

I guess maybe I've just not been waiting long enough. I keep quitting my system because I think it's hung. Maybe I just need to wait a few days! Seriously, are you saying it takes 30 hours? I have a 101 minute feature and have had no trouble writing a DVD, but the Blu-ray is just hanging. I'll give it another try. Thanks for posting this, though as maybe I'm just being impatient.

H.264 takes much longer than MPEG2 to encode. Using Encore, you have the option of using either codec.

If you want professional quality, you NEED to pony up and pay for professional encoders.

You can get by with things like Encore, etc. but you won't get the highest quality encodes.

If you're cheap (read: don't want to pay anything), you can use a patched build of x264, the open source H.264 implementation, because people have already produced legal Blu-rays using it. Also, it matches or exceeds the quality of the top professional encoders on the market.

My feature length project is broken up into five smaller projects for ease of handling. I export a Blu-ray file from each project (using the preview files from a rendered timeline) and then combine them in Encore into a single timeline. Then I create an image file rather than burn the blu-ray from Encore. Then I can use Nero to burn the Blu-ray disks from the image file, whenever I need one. The whole process only takes a few hours and the image looks incredible on our 42" 1080p flat panel.
