Has anyone had any experience with the Ginirigs line of accessories?

I have been looking to see what is out there for a shoulder solution for a red one. I have seen the mantis and all the others, but came across this and don't see why it wouldn't work for a R1 if you just added longer rods?

Thoughts?

Hey Jonathan,

I have this rig. I quite like it. For the money, it's an excellent low cost solution. It may not be quite as nice or light as the super expensive solutions but I think it's prefect for my needs.

There are a few things I'd mention. The shoulder pad has a sticky backed foam pad which you apply. It looked to me that it wouldn't quite cover all the metal, leaving sticky areas exposed to collect dirt so I decided not to attach it with the sticky pad. Instead, I zip tied it in place on the last shoot. Wrapping it in some kind of fabric would be another option which would probably work better.

Another thing to be aware of is that the tightening knobs actually come up above the level of the stage where the camera sits when you're adjusting the position of the plate on the dovetail. They can collide with the side handle of the EPIC/Scarlet, I'm not sure if they would be an issue with the R1. I think on that shoot I mentioned we had to keep one side slightly loose and ensure that we tightened the other side to prevent the camera from sliding. I've heard of people removing the red thumbscrews and adjusting the problematic ones with Allen keys.

I have no experience with how it would handle a R1 but it handles the Scarlet with no major problems.

Let me know if you want any more information

Is the dovetail same standard as the one from Arri?
I have an old arri bridge plate on my R1, I think it's from SR3, and if the dovetail is the same it would be a good set.

Do you know if you can get these older ones anywhere? Here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ydb6Yic_GkM

The dovetail is longer, and the handles attach straight to it, that's better for me.
