Although my Red #297 has done a few band clips and commercials, this is the first one I have had a direct involvement in. I data wrangled on set and ended up grading it in Fusion from a DPX HD compile. Also, it’s my son James’ band, Solomon. Last year they won “Smokefree Rockquest”, the national school bands competition in New Zealand. A part of their prize was funding (small) for a recording and a clip from New Zealand On Air.
Isola Productions handled the shoot with Damon Fepulea’i directing and editing.
D.O.P. was Rhys Duncan, a fabulous Steadycam guru and far too modest cinematographer. He was a second unit operator on “King Kong”.
Rhys’ late son Cameron made two short films (also shot by Rhys) that appear on the extended DVD of “Return of the King”. Factoid: It was the life of Cameron that was the inspiration to the song “Into the West” from ROTK that won the best song Oscar.
This was the first crack Rhys had at the Red and from my point of view it was a duck to water. The workflow was fast and the only technical hitch was a faulty battery mount connection (since replaced). We had a set of Ultra Primes thanks to Metro Film and Film Construction, supplemented by the Red 18-50 which was used mainly on the Steadycam.
Some of you may connect that our lovely actress Olivia Tennet was in “LOTR: The Two Towers” – who wasn’t?
When the clip is up on YouTube I’ll post the link.

I want to second the vimeo and vuze suggestions.

Thanks for those suggestions guys!
I will have a look at those options when I have some clear time. We are on a tight deadline deadline job here and in order to do the work on the clip I had to use my Easter break and every free night I could steal.
I do have an ftp option I could use once I have made something like a h.264 render in HD.
I'll get onto that as soon as possible (just like build 16).
