OK, so for the last few shoots, including outdoor stuff, i have been monitor based and using LCD's rather than the EVF.

I've been finding it a little easier to kind of 'see' what i am shooting rather than using the EVF where i tend to look at certain parts of the image and not really the whole thing.

Anyone else found this at all? and prefer using LCD's?

Not with Red, but with my Z5 I do exactly the same and miss bits when looking through the evf. Perhaps it's something to do with it being like watching tv and therefore our brain scans the picture better....?

I never use the EVF much. I just prefer the LCD. Even back in my film days I found it annoying to attach my head to the camera, I just prefer the freedom of stepping back a foot or so and looking at a screen.

Thats what i'm finding for sure! Being able to take a step back from it and look at the whole image. The EVF, even with its greatness, still makes me concentrate a little too much on the elements of the image (say an expisure on the face of someone etc) and not the image as a whole.

I also find shoulder mounted moves to be a little more fluid and dynamic when i get to look at the LCD in front of me and not the EVF - most likey for the same reason as above....

The is nothing wrong or right here, the EVF is a great tool and many prefer it. For me, I just work differently, I grew up with Hasselblads and waist level finders, I just like screens.

For sure, nothing is better either way, personal preference.

i think a large part of it for me, is that the red LCDs are so good that even in sunlight I still know what I'm shooting. A lot of other monitors tend to disappear in the sun.... and I live in Florida, and the LCD is very tolerant of even our sunlight intensity.
