Setting of EVF button to control REC start / stop ?

Glanced at a thread somewhere where this request was made ? (searching is not helping find the thread, so apologies for repetition :innocent: )

Any news if this is actually possible ?

Slated on a Build_xx in the near future ?

Thanks ...

I have suggested this several times. It would make the evf combined with a long cable into a perfect remote control for the camera as the evf already controls almost everything else.

Never seem to get any useful response from red as to whether this is possible or not.

Its possible, but there may be less confusing (read operationally safer) options already out there such as GPI start / stop trigger.

Yes but that means an extra piece of kit to buy and extra cables to connect. If it was all in the evf it would be so much cleaner.

I was doing a shoot a few days ago on the autobahn in germany with the camera mounted on the car roof. I could control all features of the camera like frame rate, shutter speed, etc from the evf inside the car. But to fire I had to put my arm out the window and reach up to the camera.

I know I could buy an Origo or something but I just think it would be so much neater to have it all in one device.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a good idea ?

Record Start / Stop on EVF ?

Record Start / Stop on EVF ?

The problem I would have being able to start/stop on the EVF is I have the tendency to accidentally press the buttons when adjusting it's angle...

That's the issue - time for a vote on this I think...

I've been using the Origo with a 21/2' cable for tripod and shoulder mount use, and 10' and 30' cables for jib use, and I'm very happy with that setup. I think it is a much more flexible scenario than having a start stop button on the EVF.

Get that USB port up and running with a Wifi dongle and let us control the camera with our iPhones! :-)

I would say make it an option in the user set buttons, but I will probably never use it. Heck, I want almost any "setting" assignable to the custom buttons on the camera/EVF/LCD.

What he said... Would be nice to have it as an option, I would probably never use it.

Origo rocks, can't live without it now.

Would there be a way to require the button to be pressed and held for a few seconds to start/stop?

Why not just let the main rotary control select the option to be activated from the internal menu when you want to use it.

Once activated the main button becomes the start/stop button

This way there will be no accidental firing.

Optional (has to selected) would be great ... ;-)
