I just spotted this, which crystalized some other comments I've seen recently:

5. Original RED EVF - $1,750
(Tested extensively to work perfectly with the EPIC-M - Some do some don't mine does)

Some do, some don't?

That seems to be what others have reported too. Some swear their EVF works perfectly with EPIC, others just get a flashing pink screen; that was my experience the only time I've tried an original EVF with EPIC.

Does anyone know definitively why?

Is there any way to tell (short of testing) which EVFs will work with EPIC-M and which won't? Serial number of the EVF?

Can RED confirm that a future upgrade to EPIC firmware will make the necessary changes so all EVFs work with EPIC-M?

Is it anticipated that all EVFs will work with EPIC-X when it is released?

This has been discussed or alluded to in a few threads now, but (apologies if I'm wrong) RED have never actually indicated what the real story is here. Maybe it's time for that?

(I know, I know, the Bomb is THE viewfinder to have. But it's not the viewfinder *I* have, and it won't be until I've earned a lot more money to justify the purchase, so I need my EVF to work with EPIC for a fair while - and I'm sure I'm not alone in this)

Thanks

Mike

Just to report my experience. EFV gives a flashing red screen when plugged in to my Epic. Three times unplugging and re-plugging makes the EVF work. Repeat after power cycle the camera. Once it works and the camera is not powered down it keeps working.

Yes Yes Yes. This is a no-brainer. The original EVF is a great piece of hardware. A bit large but still great. RED needs to support the early adopters who helped get them where they are. We invested in the RED ONE. We invested in the EPIC. Now all we want is a little customer service.

Bumpity Bump - mine flashes red/pink with Epic-M build 2.05.

My original EVF, which came with R1 #348 (February '08 delivery?), works fine with Epic-X #1984, delivered last week and running on 2.0.5.

Mine was Nov 2008 - so much later delivery than yours!
