Wonderful news, can only wellcome that making great images becomes less expensive.

lets put it another way:
you want to make SOME customers happy ? put down the price for Epic.
you want to make ALL Red user happy ? put down the price for Dragon.
Doing your way, you'll get new customers buying more accessories, which might be at the end the whole business idea behind your decision.

NEW PRICE

NEW PRICE

Hi,

Great news ....will order one more in our kitty....I hope this new price will include free upgrade for Dragon if invoice is for USD50000 or more.

I think the NEW Epic price should be between USD28000 to USD 32000...

Any guesses..

Harcharan

I would expect across the lineup...

Jim

Please have a look at the redrocket, it have been around for quiet a while and perhaps its cheaper to build it nowdays:)

Jim you brought jobs back to America. I know you thought highly of Jobs, as many of us did, but his legacy is tainted by employment conditions overseas and the opportunity lost for this country. Apple could have set the standard. They didn't, you are.

Respect. For what its worth.

Heh heh heh.... Jim didn't mean across everything we make. Just Camera Brains. Mechanical items, and dare I say the ' simpler ' electronic products we manufacture do not have the cost swing potential that the camera brain does and everything else we make doesn't even come close in terms of initial NRE that designing custom ASICs and designing custom Sensors does.

Remember.. it used to take us many days to make a camera brain and when we started production it was in the middle of a world-wide component shortage after the Japan disaster. Now component prices have come down, our team has gotten so good it takes a fraction of time to assemble and test the camera brain, and NRE is ( for the most part ) recouped.

All that good news means.. well, good news.

I guess it also means that since we are seeing this turn.. that every other camera company that makes their own stuff should be seeing similar reductions.. and maybe they will all do the right thing as well.

I've gotten a lot of use out of my Epic M and I knew the score when I put down my cash. Got my free upgrade on my Epic M, and I had my bomb EVF upgraded as well. I've already saved cash in the simple fact I didn't have to buy a new camera. I've been well taken care of so far.
My hope is that as RED grows it's philosophy stays the same.
Looking forward to the next module... maybe prores module mini :)

This is incredible, doesn't effect me, but it feels great to be apart of something so unique. Or maybe it does effect me if Scarlet Dragon is more affordable as a result of this ^^

I was going to answer this question for you but I knew you'd stick to your guns.

"If they say 6k, you can count on it."
That's pretty special.

Thanks for all your hard work guys, it's nice to see investment costs recouped.

Yes.. Still 6k. Dragon has actually gotten more expensive to make because we needed to respin the ASIC to go along with the recent improvements of the sensor... but we are keeping the price the same as quoted.

Ironically this is because of you guys... We wouldn't be able to recoup investments if you guys didn't buy our stuff.. So we really should be thanking you... Which I guess is exactly what we are doing here.
