  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Every once in awhile...

We are witnessing Technological Singularity and Red is at the forefront of the digital cinema side. Without Red we would be stuck in the purgatory of 1080p h.264

Is it a short bus, or a long bus? hehehe

Love the bus analogy, since when you mix all RED with a ton of $green$, you get yellow -- Go hard!

Jim,

You're back! It was getting a little too quiet for a while there. Thought you were up to something.

Does this news have anything to do with the Dragon Sensor prototype in testing? Low light sensitivity spoilers?

Wait, you're saying that you would rather be using HD than film? :skep: Budgets aside, of course. :-) Anyway, the thought of the established digital manufacturers doling out features by the decade is a horrible one. RED properly bitch-slapped them out of complacency.

Low light sensitivity spoilers?
No prizes for guessing your favourite feature. :-)

The future will be quite a bit different than what we know as "now". Everyone will need to adjust. That is what professionals do.

In the end... it is all about the image. Sorry to be so cryptic. In this day and age, that is the best I can do. But I am more excited than ever for what is about to unfold.

Jim

I'm thinking "light field sensor" but I could be waaaay off here. Either way, I'm sure whatever is being brewed rocks ;)

When was the last time Jim was this cryptic, and what was the end result? Jim, is the Dragon sensor going top release in the year of the Dragon as planned?

Today I am totally excited. Watching the future unfold is thrilling. Being a small part of it is unreal.

I hope I am not over-stating when I say that RED seems to have been a key player in changing the industry over the past 5 years. Hold on... things are just about to get really interesting.

The world is changing at an accelerating pace. There are those that will lead and those that will fall off the back of the bus.

Great times...

Jim

I do believe that RED has and continues indeed to play a key role in what is happening in the Industry, and very excited as well, for you and for me as a user, but mostly excited to know that there still are individuals like you that have simply what it takes to believe in something and risk it all, this is why we are here... ;)

We have all worked so hard to get to this and now we at Oceanplanet 3D have been hired by Tsui Harks production company in China to shoot our very first 3D feature Film "Detective D: The Prequel on our Deep Atom 3D camera system...Thanks to Jims vision of the future to help us get here we to are exhilarated and excited.

I wish the logo on my camera glowed red every time one of these posts gets made. Though, maybe that's too iRobot.

Jim,

I think there is no discussion in this entire industry that RED paved the way for the change from analog film to digital in acquisition and surely has its influence on many aspects of the industry moving into a purely digital age.
Clearly others follow up, but RED is obviously heading, even more so when looking at 4K.

We are very proud to be part of it. We just finished an upcoming comedy mini series for biggest german broadcaster ZDF. And we did it in 4K in the entire post. Just to see if it will work out. And it did.

6 episodes, 15 minutes each, 90 minutes total. Full greenscreen/bluescreen. Tons of 3D set extensions, matte paintings, keyings, compositings. 100% VFX workflow. All in 4K. Too bad that they only airing that in HD 720p for now.

Keying in 4K is sooooo nice.

I hope you have soon some more detailed beans to spill for us. We are strongly looking forward to the 4K projector, as this will IMHO change EVERYTHING once again.
Please give us an affordable 4K display device, so we can finally start releasing in 4K. We post in 4K anyway.

Mr. Jannard,
Could you be just a little more specific than that?

For example, it would be nice to know that the upcoming Dragon's image quality is going to be on par with Canon 1DX and Nikon D4 RAW stills (or maybe surpass them) at high ISO, AND do it in motion.

Well said Jim...

Looking back, since 2006 Red has ignited a widespread equipment evolution in this industry. Something tells me that what's in Red's past is simply the very tip of the disruptive iceberg sticking out above the water - with the remaining gigantic mass of the iceberg still lurking below the water waiting to be revealed in time ;)

On this journey its really not about the destination...in actuality the journey is the destination

It's nice knowing Red is busy creating real products for the imaging industry rather than going the Toys R Us route the other imaging conglomerates take. Nice toys, no question, but in the end Red knock-offs in one sense or another.

I'm riding the roof of the bus with Frodo, Spiderman, some mumblecore kid sliding down a wall crying, the series regulars from Southland, and the cover models from GQ and Vogue. Vroooom.
