It looks like if you buy a bunch of cables online there are some Chinese manufacturers who will make Epic/LEMO-compatible cables on the crazy cheap. But there are obviously minimum order sizes. Anyone interested in getting cheap dev-cables?

Ok I guess that price didn't include shipping. The price for a couple cables with shipping to the us is $37. I'll put in an order for 3 cables and then if two other people end up wanting a cable and they do in fact work it'll probably be ~$40 all told for a 6' cable.

Ok and if these work they can make 25' cables for about $7 more and 50' for about $25 more each. And of course if you want to cut the cable and crimp it yourself you're good to go.

Will these have a male or female RJ45 connector? It seems like a short adaptor with a female connector may be the best way to go since you could use any standard RJ45 cable (of whatever length the day requires) with it. Shipping would be cheaper too.

I ordered male plugs. I'll see how these go. Terry and David you're obviously first in line once I receive my sample shipment. And if quality is up to snuff I'll put together a more accurate price list and we can go from there with a wider group buy, which I'll put up in the Accessories section. Estimated shipping is 7-10 days for the samples.

Brandon I'll check and see if they can make male or female RJ45s. I would assume yes. Their rep has been very helpful.

Nobody is late. ;) In fact you're all too early. Let's hold our horses and see if the cables work and are worth our money.

Andrew, if you find a cheap shipping method for a .13kg envelope I'd be happy to do that, however it might make sense to just ord er direct and split the cost with a couple locals. The real advantage to the group buy is that they have a shipping minimum of $27 and a unit minimum of 2 cables. So that makes a cable about $60 each but still cheaper than the competition. Shipping a big box of them though and me dropping them into FedEx flat rate envelopes is pretty cheap with $10 shipping.

I'll put up a real Group Buy in the group Accessories section when I get my samples.

Off topic: Will there be R3D / video streaming over ethernet eventually?
