  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The brochure said an ethernet connection for data streaming. So does this mean the EPIC can stream directly to a NLE and raid system? Does this mean that a RED ALERT like application will allow the DIT to grade on the fly and put that to all the on set monitors?

Please say it's even maybe so.

It'd also be nice to have a RED ram as a buffer device, but then have the camera do checksums on 2 GB of data at a time, transfer the data to the computer system, have it do a checksum, once it's done verifying they are the same, the 2gb of buffer on camera is cleared. Now that would rock!

Can we EVER..Network the E-sata drive that the camera is writing to?

I would be great to see the files on a remote computer via a network while onset!

imagine the possibilities... porn in the EVF.

We can probably offer that with the SolidStore - it will network share local media, and could be configured to share the RED Drive when connected via USB.

The SolidStore also features a Gigabit Ethernet connection - so when things become clearer about what the Ethernet I/O option on the new RED cameras will need, we'll aim to meet those needs. A LolCat generator could be an option.

Great we'll build an HTTP proxy and SMTP store-and-forward server for use when the camera is not net-connected. Plug it into the SolidStore, it will store the Myspace updates, emails and LolCat pictures for submission when it has an internet connection.

Brilliant.

I'd love it if I could play versus my Scarlet in Call of Duty. You guys are building a "brain" after all.... think we can teach it simple combat tactics?

I know, off topic.... sorry

I definitely like the networked eSATA drive idea. I'd be afraid of slowing down the hard drive if I'm trying to write to it while someone else is trying to read from it.

oooh. We need chat also.

But jarred doesn't want you to know the real reason: reduser.

i love the idea of being able to teach something to scarlet or other "brains" ... but maybe they will start a revolution against us humans ... better keep them seperated without ethernet connection ;-)

but seriously: one of the interesting things about the SI-2K camera is the possibility the seperate the camera head from the recording device via ethernet cable - could this be an option for the "brains"?

martin

Okay, I can throw in a Jabber connection and 3G modem support?

Perhaps you could plug the SolidStore into the net before heading out to the shoot, it would mirror the active threads on REDUser, then you can browse them with the EPIC/Scarlet... Out the SDI and HDMI, naturally.

Or maybe, instead of all this internets stuff there could be some way to send video data over the Ethernet connection? Just an idea.

Please allow the camera to update my Facebook status every time I press the 'record' button with current settings... "Tony is recording 6k at 24fps".

I need that yesterday! :)

So really you guys are building a web cam. Ahh I see.

I can only assume the Brain encodes and posts the clips to youtube on the fly, in addition to pulling every 1000th frame and uploading it to my myspace page. The i/o module will undoubtedly have transcription software installed to keep my blog current. But will it link to my x-box live account? Doubtful. I thought you guys said you did it right this time. This little box can not contain the endless tundra that is my disappointment.
