Hello dear Red User,
I know we already have solutions to use Leica R lens with the Epic, A mount Nikon or canon mount
I like the idea to use my Leica set with their original mount, I coudn't find anything about such a possibility,
at least not from Red part (just the Leica m this summer).
Do I have to modify my lenses or does a third party solution aproved by Red is around the corner?
Thanks in advance
Best
Brice

So ?
No leica R mount for Epic ?
How do you guys convert Leica R lense in to Nikon then?
Did some of you used the Leitax adaptor?
If so how sturdy it is?
Thanks in advance
Best

Cinemod would be my prefered choice, the only problem is they haven't beeing aprouved by Red yet,
I have being told they did send the mount to red but they are still waiting for an answer.
Anyway still waiting for Optitek Nikon mount to be delivered, I have the feeling the wait for me is going to be lonnng.
Thanks guys.
Best
Brice

There is already a discussion on the forum as to why I didn't use the Cinemods mount and when with optitek. Essentially, I didn't want to use a still lens mount which could potentially have a slight amount of play.

Well, if the cinemod is as rock solid as the Optitek Nikon mount we shoudn't see any slight amount of play.
I already own an Optitek Nikon mount for R1 and their is absolutely no play, even after more than 3 years of use.

Exactly, but the cinemod R mount is using genuine leica parts which are designed for still lenses. It's definitely cheaper, just not for me. Not bashing Cinemods in any way. It's good to have options though.

No worries Bob, you are right, more choice is always better.
When watching the Cinemod it seems their is a lock "à la PL" on it.
It look a little bit better and stronger than a still lens mount, maybe I'm wrong.
Anyway,
Red team please, if you have the time to look closely at the Ausies Leica R mount, you will make at least 1 happy customer.

A little bumpety for the Ausies mount.
Have the leica R mount by cinemod been approved by Red yet?

Hi Brice, We use Allstar A mount. Improves functionality, its really a nice mount system and great for Leica R. I very highly recommend it

Thanks for tip Dave.
I own the Optitek Prolock Nikon mount,
my dilemna today is more do I mod my Leica R set into Nikon or not.
If I have to take to road of adaptator I'll choose leitax (nikon)
Cinemods seems more convenient to me.

The Allstar Mount or the Leitax Leica-R to Canon adapter are both extremely solid. I would have stuck with Allstar (that I used on my Red One) but needed a Canon solution for my Tilt / Shift glass.

The beauty of the Allstar route is you can use Leica-R, Nikon, Contax, Mamiya and PL glass without changing the mount.

Want to buy an All Star mount for my Leica R glass, but there's a glitch -- individual adapter for each of my Leica lens which adds to the cost tremendously. Any alternative for those adapters? On the other hand, there is the Cinemods Leica mount where I don't need any adapters and is cost effective , but the play factor puts me into dilemma ...

a Leica-R lens with fixed Leitax mount gives on a RED Canon mount no play at all with the dual locking system!!
You would get perhaps play on a real Canon camera.

Thanks Filip! What would you suggest on the process of installation of Leitax mount on the Leica ... by myself or have it done professionally?

As what I said before, A-mount is an universal system. People always think that it costs a lot to buy many adaptors.
However, they can use on not only one specific camera.
In the future, when you change your camera. You don't have to spend too much and you can continue to use A-mount system and to enjoy it's advantage.
It won't save more to spend on one specific mount (maybe not only one if you use different types of lenses) for one specific camera.
Digital camera is not like film camera. We change to new camera every three year usually.

The Leitex adapter is very easy to install. Remove all but one screw on the leica r mount, attach the leitex adapter, line up the screw holes and insert the provided longer screws. Super solid chunk of metal with no play. I have a set of R's 19-135 set up like this. Very happy with the mount.
