  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Esata MacPro with Red Station?

I recently went with some SAS cards and I cant begin to describe how great they are. Got a ATTO R680 for a raid controller, and a ATTO H680 with esata fan-out cable to attach Red Stations and client drives.

Currently I can have 4 devices plugged in (I use 2 RedMag readers and 2 G-Raid 4tb drives). The cards and drives can all be accessed at full speed at the same time. Each device is allotted 6Gbps of bandwidth, but 3Gbps is faster than they can read or write anyway.

If you're not yet getting into RAID controllers, but either want 4 devices at full speed or might look into RAIDs in the future, go with the ATTO H680 to start.

I get speeds of around 200 megabytes per second read or write on the SSDs and G-Raids.

One more question Jeff. 6GB/min doesn't seem that fast. How much faster is that than FireWire 800. What are your offload times?

AJA System Test App reports ~105 MB/s Read/Write with E2P card eSATA, ~45MB/s Read & 40MB/s Write with FW800. I doubt if the E2P is the ultimate card, but it works for me and I'm not buying any more cards until I figure out what Apple is doing (or not doing) with the next line of MacPro towers. Best, Jeff

What are your off load times using CalDigit?

Hey Tyrel,

Using R3D Data Manager, I am getting an offload of 3.6GB in 1m 31s - thats with a MD5 Checksum.

That was 6 clips, totalling 1m 41s, so almost offloading in real time with MD5 checksum.

Probably could get it faster but not optimised the system yet.

MacPro 2009 8-Core - 6GB RAM.

:))

how long does it take to offload say a 64GB card ect... Mine off loads using firewire 800 in 12 minutes. How much faster will a CalDigit off load?

Tyrel,

As I mentioned above, it depends on how much footage is on the SSD. My test was simply what I had on a SSD at the time. - see above.

Are you using R3D Data Manager to do a MD5 Checksum or are you just using Finder to drag off the SSD into a folder?

:))
