Error 0x1D from Wooden Camera Top Handle

Well, I’ve had the dreaded 0x1D error on my Dragon-X (had the same error on my Scarlet-W less than 2 years ago that led to an upgrade to my current Dragon-X)

Red is being rather cagey as to the cause of the hardware failure only saying “RED accessories will show up in the log as an "attached module", the non-approved accessory will not. We can pinpoint the time and date the error occurred which was on the 24th of this month with a non-approved accessory”.

The 3x third party accessories on the brain at the time of the failure were: Wooden Camera Trigger Top Handle, Anton Bauer/Wooden Camera (co-branded) v-mount to gold mount plate, and a Wooden Camera PL mount (passive).

Since the lens mount is passive, and the battery plate only passes voltage I’m assuming the failure stems from the Trigger Top Handle. Has anyone else had this happen to them or experienced issues with the trigger handle? For what’s it’s worth the record function on the handle was “locked” at the time of the error and was not being used to run/stop the camera.

As Red only recommends “approved 3rd party accessories” I’m looking at the Bright Tangerine top handle. Anyone have this and like using it on their setup? Lastly, any good passive top plate recommendations to i can have all passive top accessories?

My Camera (Gemini) just got this error for the 2nd time since December. Went in for an expensive repair in January, worked fine until today, when it came back up again. Without looking at the camera yet, the techs are saying that the issue can come from the "unapproved" wooden camera Pass though top plate. However, I run with the approved Wooden Camera Easy Top Plate. I don't use the handle you have, but they are blaming a wooden camera product, even though (in my case) it's approved.

I have had the WC pass-through top plate and record trigger handle on my Gemini since I bough it over 2 years ago. Only ever had one issue on a job in super high heat/humidity (Hawaii) where the camera would power on then keep shutting down seconds later due to a battery/power related error code. I called abelcine at the time and they helped me run a "rediscover" which basically resets all aftermarket accessories that pair with the cameras OS and I have never had the issue since. I was told that there are several versions/iterations of the top record trigger handle and the pass-through plate in which maybe I got lucky and got an upgraded/improved version. I worried about this in the past then forget about it but now you guys have me worried again.

So I’ve been running my repaired Dragon-X for a few months since my initial post without issue. I’ve decided not to run any “active” wooden camera accs that aren’t “red approved” at this point.

I ended up getting a second hand red tactical top plate (3 pin fisher run/stop) was a nice perk, as well as a DSMC2 WC Master Top Handle which fits on that top plate (with a couple washers on the front since the red plate is shorter than WC’s).

still running the WC PL mount, but that’s passive so don’t expect any issues there.

FWIW I still have the trigger top handle but I’ve yanked all the electronics out of if and filed down the retaining stops so it’s just a dumb handle that can be placed anywhere on the top now. Sucks that I can’t use it as intended but better than another costly repair.

From my experience I’d just stay away from anything electronic from WC.

Anyone know if the WC Short Top Plate works ok? Only the handle has pins. Direct mount Red display will attach directly to the camera since the plate doesn’t extend that far over the top. I bought WC Nato rails and bottom plate thinking I would get the Pass Through but I don’t want to risk damaging my Helium.
