  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ergo...

As for dumbells making it heavier....not sure about that!

Dave,

David,

NICE comparison. Did you plan this? ;) Really shows the difference in the two design approaches... at probably equal stages of development.

BLACK PLEASE!

not to worry...

The "silver" renders are a representation of our tumbled aluminum prototypes (which we really like). The black renders are more what we expect the shipping cameras to look like. Truth is you really never know what we will do when it is time to ship.

Actually, I just love playing around with this render program and Matt's models.

Then why does Panavision paint their bodies white? Actually my vote on color would be the dark grey they're putting on the RED RAM units. And yeah, the brushed or shiny aluminum would not be desirable. Not only does it have more potential of creating unwanted glints of light or reflections, but shiny or brushed metal gets hotter in sunlight than even black does.

I think the tumbled aluminum look is just for the prototyping.

visually distinctive from Red One would be nice. That way for all the less technically inclined people, it's obvious that there's value added :-).

What I figured, but hey... speak now or forever hold your peace, right?

Plus the black renders look so....what's the word I'm struggling for... BAD ASS. ;)

The silver renders/non-anodized aluminum does make it easier to see the design at this stage though.

Great work Red team!! Getting excited. A little light in dark days...

I seem to recall that modules can be stacked in any order. Would that mean the I/O module could be placed at the rear, behind the batteries. May not be as ideal for weight distribution, but could be a nicer feature for cable management.

There was also some mention that the modules don't have to be mounted directly to the brain. Is that still the case?

Dave,

I think the major improvement we see here is on the picture taking itself. Nice Composition with the blurred Red background and Lighting, and nice open aperture with a small F stop (1.2, 1.4?) to create the focus on the camera. Now It would've been interesting if the new Photo was taken with the Misterium X/ Monstro Chips... :)

This was confirmed by Jim back during the original DSMC announcement so unless we hear otherwise it's probably still a feature. An incredible feature actually.

The Brain isn't a "module" .. its the Brain :)

Actually, I have to agree with you. Looks a bit "boxy". I think my RED ONE is much prettier. But I like the functionality and the ease of keeping it current. And what it does is more important to me than looks.

The last 'render' of the eyepiece we saw had some pretty svelte lines on it.
We're only seeing this cause Jim seems to be having prob's selling the concept to some.
This design could well be several months old.
Wouldn't surprise me if the shipped item is a bit more curvy in all the right places!!!

Also, is this a working model? Or is it just a mockup to get a feel for the physical dimensions? Does this model produce actual… footage?

I think a clue was in the post of the frankenstein module that DID take
the Bulldog image the answer is... it would seem, not yet. I think you
answered your own question re: getting a feel for dimensions. Its a sexy
tease :matrix:

Also, if at all possible, I’d like to get a closer look at that new EVF design shown in the “Still Changing…” thread.

and SO would RED's competitors, hence the 2 versions behind image post rational that Jim stated. Which is pretty smart, and is exciting how it drives these boards wild with conjecture!

I am pretty new to these boards, but it sure seems one can deem lots of clues from Jim's posts if you read between the lines... he sprinkles hints in
like a master... :shiftyph34r:

Such as the REDRAY hints in the doom and gloom post. CLEVER STUFF!

Looks killer. Hope that it is lighter than the RED1. I'm shooting handheld at the moment with a big setup. Damn it's getting heavy and I'm no wimp.
Cant wait for my epic FF.

Keep on rocking guys.
