  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X STAGE 3 and 3.5 Now Begins...

Can anyone explain what the Pro battery module and module adapter actually do?
Also, can you attach the LCD to the camera as is, or do you have to order cage items or additional mounts?

Module adapter you need to attach any module on, apart from the REDMote,
Pro Battery is 4 x REDVolts or 2 x REDVolt XLs, hot swappable

You can attach the LCD to the top of the camera as is. But that is about it -- it will use up all the mounting points. If you want to mount any additional items then you will need a cage or top plate.

Epic starts to look a similar size to R! with both those modules on!
 
And when RED ONE must be send to RED if December 1 will begin shipping of Stage 3? Has somebody sent their RED ONE to RED? And What must be send? Only RED ONE body with PL mount?
 
Alexey, when your time is up to send in your RED ONE, you will get further instructions from RED.

Should we send our Red One cameras back to Red with the CF module or without?

Do tear stains on the camera body have any negative effect on the warranty? :sad:
 
Hi Brent

Can you clarify - I was told in a forum post that if you have a red m-x (versus a non-mx) you get an additional discount on your epic-x if you are stage 2 but not stage 3. Can that be right - stage 2 the value of your body makes no difference as you keep your r1 but stage 3 you are giving back a body that you have paid a lot more for?????

1. Guys who of stage 3/3.5 has sent in their red one?
I paid down the deposit for the epic -x stage 3+ accessories. Red #0707. i'm gonna miss my redone's serial no. :''(
2. I'm thinking cameras will start being sent back on dec 1st? (guessing)
3. and 7-14 days to get the swap done? (wiretxfr + shipping in the r1, eval, and epic back).
4. also for us guys in AbuDhabi/Dubai, can we choose to have to do the swap only once the complete kit + accessories on order are ready? I shoot on canon glass, the brain is a brick on a shelf without glass, and I'm shooting a feature right now, I need my redone, can't afford a 1-2 month brick on a shelf cause I can't put no glass on my epic whilst waiting for the canon mount to get out of backorder. Because as i understand it, only the guys who bought canon mounts till last week are getting their mounts.
5. Custom duties, When fedexing my r1 back, should I say camera sent back for a replacement upgrade? so I wont have to pay 5% for the 28k value but rather just the 10.5k difference instead?

As far as I know, it does not matter what you say to customs or FedEx. Customs is only interested in the invoice your Epic arrives with, and if the invoice says 28k, that's the value you pay tax on.

According to my Bomb Squad rep the process is not yet finalized so RED can't tell if the invoice will say 10.5k (10k for Stage 3.5) or 28k. I sure hope they let us know soonish.

Is it fair to assume that Stage 3/3.5 reservations process is complete or close to completion? Any chance we get a hint of when the EPIC X Stage 4 reservations will open up - still before end of the year, I assume, but anything more precise than that? Thanks!

I think it's safe to assume that Stage 4 is at least 10 days to two weeks away ... at very least.

Shortly after this Dec 1st cut-off, you might see Stage 4 reservations begin, but not before then.

Gotcha, thanks. I'm wondering though if the limited pool of eligible users have all put in their request already? If yes, I'm hoping RED can begin the stage 4 reservations even earlier than the dec 1 date.
 
I'm going to think aloud here for a moment about the difficulty of choosing whether to do the Stage 3.5 trade-in with RED UK or RED US. This might be interesting to RED's other EU customers who share my plight of counting cents to make ends meet. Others might find this post tedious; I kindly ask them to refrain from commenting.

Pros & cons of choosing RED UK
+ According to my Bomb squad rep I can return my RED One to RED UK: lower shipping costs, in theory.
+ My company is VAT registered which means it won't have to pay VAT to RED UK.
+ Epic-X ships from the UK instead of the US: lower shipping costs, in theory.
- Mandatory 4.9% of import duty on $27,500: that's $1,347.50.


Pros & cons of choosing RED US
+ The possibility of paying 0% import duty by giving FedEX the TARIC code for a digital still camera. According to FedEx, the code is determined by the main use of the item. If my main use of an Epic-X is shooting stills instead of video it is considered a still camera. Note: the customs declaration code Epic-X ships with is not applicable in the EU which is why FedEx will ask the recipient for an EU code. This was the case 2 years ago when I got my RED One.

- Mandatory payment of 23% VAT on either $10,000 or $27,500, depending on the paperwork RED US supplies. According to my Bomb squad rep Epic-X brain ships with an invoice for $27,500.
However, if I can prove to FedEx and Customs that I paid only the trade-in amount of $10,000 the VAT will be carried on that instead. I'm aware my company will get VAT back eventually through accounting but I don't have that extra $6,325 for VAT on $27,500. I might be able to swing the $2,300 for VAT on $10,000.


The myth of lower shipping costs
I logged into my FedEx account to get shipping cost quotes. The following specs were used for calculating rates:
RED One: 5 kilograms, packaging size of 50x50x50 centimeters, insurance value $17,500
Epic-X: 3 kilograms, packaging size of 30x30x30 centimeters, insurance value $27,500

Rates
R1 to US: $488
R1 to UK: $462

Epic-X from US: $442
Epic-X from UK: $472 (Funny how shipping Epic-X from the UK is actually more expensive!)

It would be very interesting to learn how much lower rates RED gets from FedEx. In fact, I requested that info from Dan and Alan last night.
