  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X STAGE 3 and 3.5 Now Begins...

RED charges online a so called EPIC Stage 3 Pre Payment = 5000 US-Dollar. You have to pay the rest as soon your camera is ready to ship.
RED Europe charges 3,230 £. As Federico Rizzo has mentioned...

Sorry guys, again for protocol:)
I am paying 5000 as preoder then I am waiting e-mail that is my camera is ready to ship and then I am paying else 5500 USD (10500 in sum) and then plus 3,230 £ (Pound Sterling)? so in sum 10500 plus 3230 Pound Sterling (it is 5100 USD) is it correct?

You pay now 5000 US as preoder. Customers within in the EU pay this money to RED Europe. Instead of US-Dollar we pay in Pound Sterling 3,230.
When the camera is ready to ship we pay else 5500 USD (In the EU whatever this sum is in Pound Sterling).
+ VAT and Taxes. I really dont know how much this will be.

I hope this is clear. Otherwise I asked my girlfriend to write it in Russian. She is a native russian speaker.

It is clear how to pay 10500 or 10500 in Pound Sterling twice on 3230 ...but I am worry just about VAT and Taxes and custom fee. It will be a big surpise if after payment in 10500 it will be necessary to pay else 4000 or 5000 or 6000 USD as taxex or custom fee.

Not yet.
But Jarred mentions in his post #130, that all stage 2 will be notified by the end of November.
At least that sounds like the plan

3,230 £ is the amount to be payed for preorder. However 3230 £ is equivalent to about 5186$ and not 5000$ upon today exchange rate so I want to believe that the amount of 3,230 £ include freight and import duty charges to the UK (EU) without VAT. We will see in next days.

Trevor,

Maybe you could take the money out gently, so you can shoot the smashing of the piggies face @300fps and share it :)

I guess this question got lost in other discussion but is it possible to trade out accessories for others that are prefered?

You should contact your Bomb Squad representative and ask. I think the kit price is based on their purchases of the accessories in bulk so the answer probably varies depending on the accessory. I seem to remember he said you could not, for example, swap out the PL mount for the Canon, but you probably could swap out/pay extra for more and larger memory cards.

Hey guys I am new to RedUser.net but I have been using the Red One (Now MX) since it made it's debut on the market. I recently just shot with the Epic for the first time a few weeks ago and was impressed, yet also let down. I know that this site is mostly for people that love to sing Red's praises yet I want some serious discussion on what I am about to say, not some bias talk, but real discussion.

As mentioned I just used the Epic for the first time the other day. It seems to me like the idea is for companies to send out a camera that is realistically in Beta testing and barely working. Also the design of the epic bothers me a lot. First of all the camera ships without the side handle or the red mote because everything is back ordered, so we have to use the touch screen monitor. The camera is being used without playback, so we have to upload the 5K footage to RedCine and hope it can buffer fast enough for the client to see playback, or you have to use a KiPro to record "Proxy" files, this is absolutely annoying. Along with only having the monitor on the top of the camera we only have 4 1/4 - 20" mounting holes which have to be used for the monitor. Yet when the monitor is hooked up (because you need to control the camera) you have no way to mount a handle, but wait you can buy a red accessory for a red accessory to mount the other red accessory on the camera so you can have a handle...(sound confusing?? don't worry, it's just Red). Now for the Epic lets but the SDI out in the most inconvenient spot on the camera where only little kids can mount and unmount BNC cables. While we are at it lets make the audio input on the camera an 1/8th inch jack so you have to have a battery powered mic and phantom power can no longer be used. Since we are on a roll lets change the input ports on the back of the Epic and make the connections different from the RED MX, so no longer can you power a micro force controller off of the camera, now you need to buy new cables for the camera. Oh and if that isn't enough for you to deal with while you are an AC prepping a camera package...lets not put a tape hook on the camera so you have an even harder time taping out your lenses. And conveniently if you have the 19mm top mount bracket accessory you will have a fun time changing your back focus especially if you go from a warm to cold climate unlike a film camera to the Arri Alexa that uses shims and is a solid structure design.

Another problem that I have with Red is as follows. First of all I am a head tech at a rental house with several cameras including Red, Arri, Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Zeiss, Angineux and so on. We bought the Red 18-85mm lens, it went out on one job and we got it back, it would tape out at 18mm and 85mm but anywhere in-between you would lose focus. So we shimmed it, but it wouldn't be corrected, so we sent the lens to Duclos, Paul at Duclos said that most Red lenses have this same issue and that this was the worst one he had ever seen, that we should send it back to Red for a refund. Awesome we will send it back right...so we did, 2 weeks later Allen in RMA says that the lens has been tested and meets "their" standard for film gear...haha, I actually sent a message back saying "you're joking right." No refund, no help, nothing, so we are stuck with a lens that does not stay in focus in between the 18mm and 85mm hash marks. Red to me has the worst customer service out of any camera company I have ever known. Arri on the other hand has 24/7 customer support as does Abel. We have been in business for over 30 years as a rental house and have never had such a horrible experience with gear as we have with RED, it is a shame people actually want to deal with them. Oh and by the way, their "put you on hold" message is really aggravating and numbing, Red, you need to get your act together.

I really want to see how many of you have dealt with Red like I have, they all know me by name right now over there and probably cringe when I call, stick to sunglasses, those don't overheat and give you corrupt files.

Sincerely,
Tyler

Wow, someone with the courage to finally address known problems on this forum. Kudos to you man!

Hi
Does anyone know if shipping the Epic to Canada will incur any customs/duties? I'm not sure if the Epic customs/duties will be excluded due to NAFTA, since R1 is stamped "Made in Singapre". Thanks

Just to confirm , The Stage 3 ships with a Ti PL mount or just a basic one. On the reservation sheet it just says "PL mount" But I remember seeing it somewhere awhile back that stage 2-3 where getting TI mounts. Just wondering. I already value Stage 3 as the best Christmas present ever, whether it comes with a normal or TI mount. But just wanted clarify

Thanks

The Stage 3 package is a set package. Just like with Stage 2, cannot customize - logistical nightmare.

I actually cannot say I know your name or remember speaking to you. So, no cringing here. If you want to have a meaningful discussion with someone at RED about the valid concerns in your post, why don't you talk to me (responsible for RED sales and product support) or Nick (our product support manager)? It would probably be more constructive than taking shots at our hold music or telling us to stick to sunglasses.

The great news is that customers have choices in the camera world. If you don't like what we have to offer and like what someone else has better, go for it.

@ Tyler:

Dude, you are entitled to your opinion/experience -- but why post that here? Absolutely no relevance to the topic of the thread.

In these days of internet communications you really expect a higher quality of trolling than that.
I suppose everyone knows what happens to trolls when you feed them...
