Hi,

I didn't use my Dragon for 3 months and I decided today to prepare it for the next week shooting.

I first noticed that the Redvolts inside the side handle wouldn't power the camera. I have tried 4 different Redvolts, fully charged.
They are detected by the camera on the power menu but they don't work.
In order to check them, I have plugged the battery quad module and they power the camera from there so my Redvolts are working properly.
The side handle is also working as it commands the camera.

Then I have tried to put the power supply of the camera in DC IN and it didn't work as well. It doesn't power the camera.
In order to check the DC IN slot, I have tried to power the camera with a DC IN lemo > Dtap cable straight inside a Dtap battery, and it didn't work...meaning that the DC IN has a problem, not the power supply.

I have redo firmware update, the last one + Black shading and factory reset, nothing has changed.
Note that the camera powers correctly with V-mount and battery quad module and was working perfectly 3 month ago on my last shooting.

Did someone have had such problems ?
Do you think both problems are linked ?
I'm located in France, where should I sent the camera for repair ? RED UK ?

Thanks for your help !
Seb.

My Epic M won't power from side handle redvolts nor the AC adapter in the back. Bought it like this. Hoping to repair before end of year. No idea why.

Check Xinegear in Berlin / Germany (Former RED Germany). Those guys are very fair and know what they do. Probably easier with shipping and customs. Good luck!

Hi Guys, thanks for your replies. I've just seen them.

If I had, I would have checked Xinegear...
but instead I have sent the camera to CVP London.
They have changed the OMAP board. 2200€.
Unfortunately, I don't have much information more than that. It was really impossible to speak to the engineer himself.

@Joshua, yes the side handle was displaying correctly.

I love that camera but I'm thinking of trading it to go to gemini or Dragon-X...
5K or 6K is not that important to me, the only thing that bothers me is the size of the sensor. I have noticed that Gemini and Dragon-X are smaller than the dragon DSMC1.
What you guys think ?

Cheers !

Actually Gemini is physically bigger than Dragon DSMC1 and
Dragon X is supposed to get a firmware upgrade making it 6k, if I am not mistaking.

You're Right James actually, I didn't notice that.
But the effective pixels are smaller. 5120 x 3000 vs 6144 x 3160.
To be honest, I have no clue what's the impact on the image.

All Power goes through the OMAP.
