  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X at IBC...

EPIC-X is the beginning of the EPIC/Scarlet lineup. Since it will be released 1st, it will get the historical attention. That's all I meant.

Easy to say that the RED ONE was the tipping point for this industry. As a camera collector, there is no question that these will be the most desirable objects to own from the RED program and will have the most value long term.

Jim

Jim,

are you saying we shouldn't trade in our RED ONEs, because they will be the most valueable cameras as a collectors item?

What a dilemma now. Can you help me?
What should I do?
What is the offer for keeping the R1 and getting the EPIC-X for its trade in? As I said, a dilemma...

Maybe you could offer kind of a funeral place where all traded-in R1s will be hosted in glass cabins, sorted by numbers, so we can return back and show our grand childs: "That was mine, back then, when Jim reinvented cinema. That was my part of the story. Blabla..."

Btw, don't take me too serious :p

I hope I can catch you at the show.

Love & Peace,
Axel

Who needs such a great camera system when there are other, bigger companies offering much less for much more I ask? You guys are all crazy I tell ya!

EPIC-X is the penultimate example of what we started out to accomplish.

Jim

Whats the ultimate? I agreed with everyone else...wondering.... the ability to record from the human eye...whooo!

The human eye is flawed...

No iris and shutter control, only one kind of lens avaible (a slight fish-eye: considering I know some fish-faced guys, it makes sense), no zoom and it blinks: no way we will ever use that for shooting!

Hmm, mine does have iris and shutter. errr, right, auto-iris and slow-shutter only, yes, but I'm used to it. Autofocus is excellent, though.

Mr. Jannard sir

Might I ask what the weight is on this Epic proto ??
So anxious to get it and just over curious of how much lighter it will be
not a problem if its similar in weight to R1
just curious
the smaller body is a big big plus for me as a solo shooter
but i have been hitting the weights all year to be super solo shooter :coolgleamA:

The ultimate would be a camera built upon the fundamentals of molecular assembly which would allow for not only software/firmware upgrades but hardware upgrades. Download the new blueprint and the camera's atomic makeup would change and adapt to the new design.

Target weight is 40% less than a RED ONE. But also remember that weight will go up depending on which modules you add. Still quite a feat when you consider the resolution and frame rate increases.

Also, as said before, a less than 2 second boot time.

Jim

Is there yet any idea of the maximum length of the cable between the brain and the camera body?

Less than two second boot time is fantastic. A big improvement for all wildlife shooters.

Not quite ready to give final specs yet... but some.

Jim

EPIC-X will be the 1st one released and that is the prototype we will bring. Since Scarlet uses all the same modules, you'll really be looking at the system for both.

The prototype we will bring is missing the ASIC. We will bring a few surprises that do operate however.

Jim

This is what I wanted to hear, Jim. Supply us with the tools, and be sure that all of us waiting for the Scarlet will surprise you with the quality material we can come up with. I'm more than sure that we, the ones with a budget for Scarlet only, are used to cram out the most from the limited ressources we have available. With the Scarlet, we will Rock the World :) . I'm ready to be surprised come IBC time. Personally , I Hope you guys can really come up with the Scarlet S35 model soon. Would love to be part of the RED shooter family and hopefully be part of a Scarlet Reel in your NAB ,REDucation or any other presentation in the near future!
