  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X at IBC...

I am impressed. If only you guys had another demo in white background.

What settings was it shot at? (iso, shutter, lens etc) Looks phenomenal by the way!

4K 2:1, 1/48, 23.98. Red Pro Prime 85mm. Jim pulled out one of his ninja classical lighting setups from his magic bag of tricks at the last moment and saved the day :)

Looks Great Jarred - Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Nice Ergonomic touches all around -

Is that Lemo on the side for the EVF or Sata for the Reddrive ?

I watched it on full-screen and didn't think that it might be looping until its 3rd turn...and I thought it was another render!

Need epic...

Lemo for EVF... although it can also be used for an LCD.. all monitor connectors on Epic and Scarlet are dual purpose ( LCD or EVF ) instead of being locked to one or the other.

Simply a piece of ART, and coming form an Italian which art has seen a lot of in its life, this is not even close to the compliment I intend to give.

I'm so glad I didn't put 40k in to the Hasselblad 60MP system, but I do wish I did still had that money :(.

I just can not begin to show my emotional status for the Epic, which will possibly get me over the suffering caused by been forced to sale my R1's.

One question that I would like to ask to those of you like Jim and you Jarred that I know for fact have or are still using the 1D bodies, how does the Epic Handle fill in comparison to that of the 1D series bodies of Canon, I'm a little guy but have big hands, and the 1D series bodies were the only cameras I truly enjoy having in my hands, no matter for how long of a shoot they always felt great and safe in my hands.

I hope that the Epic fills in similar and better ways since it seems to be a it thicker and wider.

We both switched to Nikon for our stills quite awhile ago.. The Epic handle(s) feel much better in my opinion.

I carried the Epic around IBC decked out with 3 modules (including the Battery module full of 4 batteries) just with the Side handle for quite a few hours.. and it felt great all the way through.

That's a biased opinion though.. your gonna hafta come down to the office to try it out for yourself :)

Thanks for valued opinion on it, and thanks for the invite as well :)

She's a beauty!

(And the "hot surface" can be dual-purposed as coffee warmer?)

Any chance you could share the magic lighting setup with us?

Looks like there's something nice and soft on the left above the camera pointing down, and a really subtle warm touch of fill light from the right of the camera.

Jim can feel free to correct my rough guess :wink5:

Jarred, I don't know whether it was mentioned before, but on a video posted I heard you mentioning additional thinner I/O module. Any guesstimate on availability ?

Also, new monitor looks like it has a different tightening solution. Can it be adjusted with one hand ?

Nice loop, btw, thanks.

(After seeing these excellent pictures & video: http://www.film-tv-video.de/newsdetail.html?&uid=38195&no_cache=1, I can answer some of my own questions)

Niiiice.

Comments/questions:

1) What are the two holes under the RED logo on te front? They don't appear to be screw holes (no allen heads reflecting in them). Are thos mics and/or mic jacks?

2) The jack panel at the bottom rear of the body, any chance of telling us what's there in addition to the obvious HDMI and SDI? (EDIT: The large one on far right is external power)

3) Dual hotswap CF has been mentioned (in this thread and another). That module only has 1... is that a real capability, and if so shall we assume it's a module? (EDIT: Yes, additional module for dual CF, hot swap confirmed)

4) Are all the mount holes strictly on top and (I assume) bottom of the brain/modules? (EDIT: No mounting holes visible on bottom of the thin "1-space" modules, bottom of brain has tripod hole only)

5) REDMOTE: Wireless operation with just the brain, or requires an addiitional wireless module piggybacked on to the brain?

6) REDMOTE: Can read the buttons on back, but not sure what the buttons/switches/jacks on sides may be (although I suspect top set may be release latches, and perhaps a mini-USB on the lower right side?). Can you tell us what they may be for? (EDIT: Top set are "Motion/Stills"
; "Lock/Power"
. I suspect "buttons" 1/3rd up from bottom are latch release)

7) And the last one... when do we get to see similar for a fixed Scarlet?? :001_cool:

That's that pops in to my head for the moment. Thanks for the pics/video!

(You knew the barrage of questions HAD to be coming, right? )

PS- Mistaking the video here for the earlier render loops is a compliment to the quality of the render!

Haha Steven I think you mean the quality of the video not the render :P The Renders look beautiful and for this to be like those...is something to be said how close you guys have made it or exact to the renders!

Quick question, that Lemo port is with the module or without? As in is that apart of the brain? the one on the side,
I've read that its interchangeable etc. but not read if its apart of the CF module or the actual brain,

Thanks!Beautiful looks by the way, great job guys, can't wait to see and hear more :)

No, I meant what I said... getting something real to look "real" is is excellent camera work. Getting a render to look real requires meticulous 3d modeling and attention to detail.

This in no way short-changes the engineering and manufacture of the actual product tho, it is indeed awesome.

It appears that the entire left side of the brain is the CF/EVF lemo all in one unit. Perhaps a version without CF module and just EFV connector would be considered.

Although it appears that they both protude out similar distances... I'm not sure that would buy you mutch. Likely there will just be a "flat" option and go for rear stacked modules for media and/or additional monitoring options.
