  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic with dragon sensor price from factory ?

Does / had anyone heard any rumors what the price will be for epics that ship from the factory with dragon sensors ?

there is no rumors, as RED has not given any indications on price point for the Dragon Sensor, apart form stating that it will no longer be 6k, as the additional amount of electronics needed when upgrading and adding the new Asic, will add more cost, but no one form RED has said how much of an increase that will bring, just that there will be an increase, so for now all we need to do is wait till RED is completely done with it and the new price is announced.

im looking to pick up a epic x or m , and thought if do a little due dilligence in case the epic d was closer to release and if current epic x + upgrade would be more than waiting to buy epic d straight from factory , after i posted this thread , i saw jarreds from sun night .

I heard RED will sell new cameras with Dragon at the same time they do the upgrades. But not sure if that means they will START both at the EXACT same time. I'm kinda hoping they upgrade the first couple hundred or so Epic-M cameras BEFORE they start selling new ones ;-)
 
Hey good guess. I would say that's probably close to what I was thinking.

Guess it all comes down to cost and the percentage for R&D, shipping, recalls/repairs, packaging, and the Red infrastructure like supply chain, admin, marketing, legal, etc. (the stuff that keeps the boat afloat).
 
WONDERING IF RED JUST OPENS THEIR MOUTH WITHOUT EVER THINKING? TO A SEMI SENSIBLE MAN IT WOULD APPEAR SO. THEY MUST HAVE BEEN MILES AWAY FROM THAT 6K DEAL BECAUSE NONE OF THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF IT WAS ANY FARTHER THAN THE DRAWING BOARD.
 
So many unknowns. You're assuming 19K too. You're also assuming that there will be a non-Dragon Epic still too. Plenty of time to get the most of your Scarlet for a while,

Well, if, like someone said here, Epic D will cost 26k, it would be great if I could trade in my Scarlet and pay 16k
as I paid 10k for it. It's all speculation, of course.
And I'm gonna say, If I can I'm just gonna buy an Epic D and keep my Scarlet, the one that made everything possible and is able to shoot a feature film right now!
