  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC when?

I think we are are restless because we have been used to a steady flow of information. Even if that information was "delayed", or "bug", or "manufacturing issues", or "more features". In previous schedule posts, users have been pretty generous about delays.

What is different now is that it seems as if the flow of information has essentially stopped since the HDRx post. This leaves the door open for wild speculation. Are they dug in and trying to get it out the door? Keeping trade secrets secret? Fighting manufacturing battles? For whatever reason, Jim has decided it's prudent to have the community at a bit more of a distance.

I don't think we're entitled to the information, but it would be great to get a "No updates for a couple weeks" or "changing approach to how we disclosure" message.

It's hard quitting cold turkey.

I think the silence is a positive indication.

I think the silence is a positive indication.

Really? I kind of thought the opposite. After all, what's it cost Jim to poke by once a week and say "Hey guys, things are going great!" The fact that we're getting radio silence seems to indicate problems to me...

Just feels that way. A number of things:

They're putting their head down through the finish line,

The suspense adds to our intrigue

Tired of not having much to talk about and they're close enough to having a lot to talk about that they're waiting to post.

and others...

Just an overall feeling I get. Long wait or not, if there's nothing current to discuss, there's nothing to discuss. Why feed us crumbs?

I still think some announcement, either really positive (e.g. Mark at Offhollywood, Gibby, etc. have Epic in hand) or really negative (e.g., full new spin of an ASIC), is imminent. I expect by October 1st we are all going to be crying...just not sure if they will be tears of joy or sadness :p

Things are going to become very interesting for Red after certain announcements are made at IBC. I'm sure Red will be first to market with the next gen camera but others are not too far behind.

Red isn't alone anymore, the big kids have caught up. However, the big kids are still a little behind as far as getting to market. We'll have to wait a little while longer before we really know how everyone stacks up but there's a ton of exciting things coming down the pipe from multiple manufacturers.

Nobody knows.

Could be tomorrow, in three months, in six months, in a year,...

Everything is possible...

While Jim is mostly too optimistic with time lines, he was cautious about the HDR mode being ready for the EPIC launch.

Now we only have to know how long it takes to make a working HDR-mode and we have the EPIC launch date......

Jochen

Actually we don't know anything about anything...while the theorizing goes on and on here...

I am calm enough to trust Jim and all developing the EPIC, it's in good hand. Meanwhile my RED is quite busy too. Afterall, i jump into the ship because Jim said wanted to focus to get a ready camera out to the public. I dont want them to rush, i expect when it releases, it will be stable and ready for prime time. end of 2010 or 2011, i dont really mind. There're many things that can be done with the current MX RED.

As new Red customer, i guess 2011.

Andrea, I feel your pain, as I'm in the same boat. Brother, when our glorious day does finally come, it'll be you, me, and a hoard of a thousand battling to hit the "submit order" button first! A beautiful chaos.

Andrea, Paul, does it help at all if say that it kinds of pays back as the second wait will be less painful. So, things will get only better. :-)

When waited for my R1 it was worse than waiting now for the Epic-X --guess experience helps.
