hey there,

Quick question, I don't have much experience with anamorphics. I have a short next month where the director wants to use Cinevision anamorphics. He is favoring using an Alexa Mini for crop issues so that we don't have to shoot a really high resolution on RED for no crop. What resolution/format would we have to shoot on an Epic-W in order to get a comparable frame size to the Alexa mini?

Thank you!
Bart

We carry the CinEvision set, as well as other vintage Anamorphics, Lomo square and Kowa.
We ship all the time all over the country.

thanks, Erich

Hi Bart,

8k ANA 6:5 is your best bet on epic-w (max sensor height) & shoot prores 2k/4k if you don't want 8k (widest FoV you can get). There's more crop than Alexa 4:3 but still looks lovely & I find a 2x Ana lens @ 35mm is still pretty wide on dragon / helium at full res 6:5 Ana aspect ratio.
With new 7.0 firmware, I believe there's a new ANA desqueeze for 16:9 mode too which is nice if 2:35:1 output is an issue with the producer / delivery format, more crop yes though I think the k35 cineovision's has a 25mm in its set (these are fast too). Not used them but I see a lot of ad's shot in the UK with them in 2:35:1 on TV. I imagine we'll see even more now Monstro is out! Bigger height sensor and high ISO is a real boon for 2x anamorphic shooting. Exciting times.
