  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-W TO GEMINI PATH?

Although I never made the change, I too prefer 8K over dual ISO and less resolution.

Tough call. Gemini will be obsolete. Epic-W has many many years still. 8K.

Gemini obsolete? Its a newer and in many ways better sensor than Helium. Yes its 5K, but that will valid for years to come. 8K is great but is still an emerging format.

My camera is there now getting this exact treatment. I have a specific, important project that it will excel at over the Helium and I feel like moving forward the framerate-to-sensor-size will make the most difference. I fully plan on having the camera die in my hands years from now. 4k is still more than enough for most of the work I do -- features, commercial, doc, etc. When a job comes along with a 6k or 8k acquisition requirement, I'll rent.

8K.

“Better sensor?”

Will clients care about 8K or corksniffing the sensor?

Once the world shifts to 8K, years from now.

Definition of non-obsolescence. P.S. reds sensors improve with color science and updates over time.

I don't what this means, but there are a number of areas where Gemini is better than Helium. If you don't need 8K, Gemini has these advantages:

1) Bettter overal DR
2) Better at lowlight
3) Much better at offspeed (96fps at Full Sensor, 120fps at 4K, which is a small crop from 5K)
4) Dual ISO
5) Much better data rates shooting 5k than 8K

But if you like Helium that's great, it's a very good sensor.

i wanted to buy Gemini, it was fantastic idea on the paper. however i personally didn not benefit for Dual ISO at all as most of things that i shoot is in exterior and with ND1.2 to 2.1 finally i went for Helium. 8K turned to be way batter path for me. now problem is that i as well got Epic-W locally, for a relatively good price at that moment. after long deliberation i decide to buy that instead then DSMC2 unified. at that time it made sense to pay 6k for 60fps upgrade but in Mid 2020 in a COVID19 epidemic this makes no sense any more at all. am stuck with 30fps 8k camera and am facing the fact that this is it. Personally i think that Epic-W is undervalued and under rated camera. grab one and enjoy Helium sensor for not that much cash
