I'm having trouble with neon lights clipping much worse than they used to with Dragon.

I did some walkaround tests with some anamorphics the other night and notice the neons were pretty badly rendered. No doubt they were overexposed. Is this something that can be changed with color space, or properly exposing those areas?

Hey Arthur,

Not sure if you've seen the thread or not but a lot of this discussion has been brought up and is being discussed a lot. The highlight clipping with helium is definitely not the same as it is with Dragon and thats part of the discussion. The neon lights coming in the way they are have a lot to do with using the dragon color science with the helium sensor but in the meantime there has been some progress in starting to deal with it. There's some pretty useful info in this thread.

There have been some good temp luts used to help with the spikes in the lights to make them from looking overly saturated. Anyways, none the less I love the look with lomo's on dragon and helium. Aside from the lights, the footage looks pretty awesome! Best of luck!

Thanks John! Going to be reviewing that thread in depth. I haven't had any issues with Helium for the last handful of shoots I've done, but just noticed how bad the neon lights were for this last test I was doing. I've been avoiding DC2 as some people have said - I didn't bother grading the footage, but it was at Red Color 4 and Red Gamma 4.

Try Dragoncolor 1 instead of 2 if you haven't already.

Or switch to RedWideGamutRGB and use this LUT: http://truecolor.us/news/free-saturation-rolloff-lut/

Ya that's what I've been doing as well. However I just started this last week playing with that LUT and it's been pretty awesome so far. It really makes me curious what else is going to come out when Graeme finishes up with the new processing of the helium footage along with the new colorscience fit to helium color.
