I'm new to the wonderful world of Red so excuse my ignorance!

I'm getting what looks like quite a strong fixed noise pattern on my 7" Touch screen after just a few minute of shooting 4k Prores. The actual footage is fine and lovely but it's like shooting through a pair of stockings!

Any ideas what might be the cause?

I'm actually in an edit right now but I'll try to post something later or tomorrow. It only appears on the monitor as a very fine checkered pattern.

I see this happen when a large resolution image is playing back at a lower debayer (sometimes even at full), in a small window of a monitor. I guess an example would be if I had a 7K R3D playing natively, scaled down to the preview window in REDCine-X at 1/2 or 1/4 debayer on my 5K iMac. Do yourself a favor and take a timeline (source window) snapshot via whatever program you're using, and you'll most likely see that the export looks perfect. The math in the scale of the preview is probably off by just a tiny bit, especially if you're rolling with 8K or 7K footage.

Sometimes it reminds me of editing in Photoshop at some scale other than 33.3% or 66.6% and seeing a bunch of jagged lines.

Most likely nothing to worry about, especially if you can produce an export and check that everything is scaling well with whatever format you're going to.
