  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic vs Scarlet comparison

haha...thanks for the guide-lines, but I was really making a point that you (and other responders to this post) seemed completely disinterested in the results since you all quite confidently assume that you know what the outcome will be. I wasn't asking if you would have a look at the results for me hehe :) I'm more than capable of that. I'll try and organize an Epic before Christmas and get something happening.

LOLs

I don't do it because it is of no real interest to me.

It's like I had an option to have an F65 for a thoruogh test in the beginning of this year, and I thought "Sure... But why" I won't ever have/use one in the contexts I work for a number of reasons. Image quality isn't neccesesarily one of them. If I am to do more tests, it will (as it has been) be in a relevant context for practical use. not in a competitive manner...

Pretty much the same applies for the Scarlet, the BMCC and to some extent the C-500.

They are all nice, I am sure! Some can even be better than the Epic in some aspects, I am sure. Uncompressed RAW is smart from a purely IQ POV, but then I actually think the Alexas filesize is smarter/more manageable. And that is the relevant comparison for me. Epic/Alexa.

Didn't test them in a runner-up match, though, but I am pretty confident I know their strengths and weaknesses.

ore curious about dragon/Arri 4k.

So

As tests take so much time to do repeatable and controlled, I don't just run around doing tests for the fun of it.
Actually, in many ways, I think it can be very boring, and hopefully sometimes somewhat helpful for others.

I could get the Scarlet.
I don't really feel like using the time... :)

It's not competitive for me either (although ultimately I'm comparing two images), it's curiosity! I'm not out to see if the Epic is BETTER than the Scarlet, that should be obvious. I'm just curious to know what differences there are, if any, because I've noticed them.

I can't believe you turned down a play with the F65!?!? I'd love to know how the c-500, BMCC and others perform against each-other, even if I was never to purchase one, let alone the F65. That's just in my nature I guess, I like to explore and compare, even if there is no other reason than exploring and comparing. It's the best way to learn, and a great way to share. I see where you're coming from though.

I used to jump for all those options, and actually I might conduct a controlled one-week test between all the new cameras this spring. But then it is work. I try to avoid doing that stuff "for fun" if I have no need for it. Writing documenting a proper comparison, easilly takes a month or more work. Then you have to decide what you want to spend your time on... Shooting or comparing? :)

Yeah, true. Time is a big player here. I here you :) And as for your last question, I like to learn as much as I can, technically (comparing/testing) which then opens up my mind, creatively (see my video here which explains what I mean: https://vimeo.com/40907171). So, how is comparing an Epic to a Scarlet going to do that? It's not really, but I'm still curious all the same. Besides, who said I can't make the test creative? In this video I test/compare the Nikkor AiS 24mm f2.8 to the Zuiko (silver nose) 24mm f2.8 and enjoyed the sh*t out of it ;) https://vimeo.com/34900711. Next time you get an f65 offer, send it my way :)

I still can get the F65 any time I want...
More curious about the new ones, though and the C500.

But I want an Alex and an epic Dragon in that soup, to makes things a bit more exciting...
