Hi,
I just signed up for this board and don't know anything about the details on the Red, pardon my ignorance.
Just a 2 quick questions:
1. What will be the difference between the Epic (S or X-S) and the One wth the Mysterium-X upgrade?
2. It seems that the owners of the One will get better deals on Epic, is it possible to just buy One to get into stage Two right now or is there again a waiting list for it.
Thank you.

EPIC MX will have 100 fps at 5k and Redcode 250. It will also be a lighter, smaller, more robust camera system. It's going to cost Reduser's between 10,500-19,000 to get the system depending on the options

Richard,
thank you for your reply. You mentioned that it's going to be smaller, so, it probably will be a better solution for a 3d (mounting on a steadicam, etc.)?

You mean that the Epic will cost 10,500-19,000 to the Red One's owners or to the members of this message board? And if to the owners, then can I pay the deposit now and wait for Epic in order to get 10,500-19,000 price range?
Thank you

Oh for sure. Steadicam, 3D and most importantly, covert indie operations! Sneaky sneaky

Talked to a producer yesterday that shot a feature in a Vegas casino with 5D MKII cameras, completely guerilla style. Love it

If you already own a RED ONE, you can trade it in for it's full value towards the EPIC-X. There is no discount for being on REDUser.
Yes! But that's what I don't understand and that's why I signed up for this message board: at the Stage Two one gets 8.5k off if he owns Red One. Just for owning one! That package will cost you around 40k (not including lenses), and that's why I wanted to know if I could shoot 3d with it (pair: the Epic for the discount for owning a Red One and the Red One itself).
So, the question is: how compatible these two will be, or the X-S will give so much better quality than the Red One that that 3d will look like a viewer should go see an ophthalmologist?
Or the Red Ones that are sold now come with that Mysterium upgrade and it will look fine used for 3d with an Epic?
Thank you.

That's correct. Originally the Red One was supposed to be upgradable until the end of time. After its release, they realized that to do this, the system would need to be fully modular, which the Red One clearly isn't. To keep the faith, it was decided to get current Red One owners up to the promise with the least cost possible, hence the 100% rebate towards the Epic. Furthermore, they created a special package, the Epic X, to offer all of the functionality currently available on a Red One. This is where the additional $8500 of accessories comes in, on top of the 100% rebate.

To say that Red is more than fair and the best company in the world is an understatement!

Now to your other question, about mixing Epic and R1 in a 3D pair. My guess is no. You could certainly intercut them, but as a stereo pair, that may be asking too much.

Having said that, if you upgraded the R1 sensor to MX, and shot at the same resolution (i.e. 4.5k) then you may get away with it.

Kesha... we need a real name.

Thanks.

You can't buy a new R1 now and get the discount. The discount had a ownership time cap.

Secondly, using the EXS35 in combination with the R1 for 3d would cause WAY more problems than the value of simply buying two epics.

btw, is that 100fps at 5K 16:9 I wonder?

...and is that RC 250 also at 24p I wonder...

It's said to be at the full 5K resolution. Although, we don't know what the maximum 16:9 resolution will be just yet. And what the final active sensor area is for that matter. We can speculate. 5K 2:1 should be 5120x2540. There is not enough horizontal sensor area to give us a 5120 pixel-wide 16:9 mode. It's a 2:1 sensor.

Hoping to learn a lot more at NAB. :)
