Hi bomb squad,
I'm directed a kitesurfing movie "Bagus" since 2008, it's worldwide release in theater on September 2011.

We were the first one to put a Red One on sand and boats closed to big waves and broadcast footages to show what kind of footages we have with slow-motion and witch technology we used for.

One year ago with my co-producers (Band Originale, ACL productions), we're build an housing especially to use in splash mode to improve our productions.

Someone are already sign the stage2, but we want to be able when we receive our EPIC to put in housing to be the first to produce underwater footages in Bagus Movie.
So we need all informations to do that ! May be you got CAD or a prototype in good shape without sensor to send to my brain team.

Let's me know, the movie success depend of your reaction.
Jim we got all Maui Crew (Naish, Cabrinha, Hamilton, Waiman...) and french connection.

Red Users, if you have informations to share about it, you're welcome.

Thank for your help.

The world's first Red One underwater housing was designed and fabricated by Mike Hastings in early-September 2007 using my Red 0008 camera. The world's first underwater Red One footage was then shot using that housing and my Red 0008 at Catalina Island in mid-September 2007.

Though it wasn't designed for surf zone shooting, the world's first surf zone Red One footage was shot in early December 2007 using that same Mike Hastings housing and my Red 0008 on the North Shore of Oahu at Pipeline. That same day we also shot the surfing with my two other Red cameras, one on a Tyler mount in a helicopter, and the other on the beach using an Optimo 12x.

The world's first custom lightweight aluminum splash housing was designed and fabricated by Sean LaBrie using my Red 0008 in December 2007. The worlds first surf zone footage was then shot using that housing and my Red 0008 in January 2008.

Being one of the first ones in line to receive an Epic camera, its a good bet that the world's first dive and splash zone housings for Epic will be designed and fabricated using one of my Epic cameras. Among other genres of production I have deep experience in the action sports like you're doing. In fact I regularly shoot pro kitesurfing and have a great library of 4k and 3k Red kitesurfing footage. I worked worldwide over the past 30 years doing action sports production, including large portions of 17 winters doing action sports production in Hawaii. I naturally know the Maui guys you mentioned quite well.

Your trailer looks good. Since it is set in Indonesia, I've previously worked on surfing productions in Java and Bali. I'd be happy to help you out with your production. Email me with your interest in my services at steve (at) cut4 (dot) tv

Steve,
You give me inspiration with the trailer, just need to show my wife how to use the Red, she is more of an editor, for when I am in NC in late May. Doing an unhooked course, will be a first for this old guy, and will be trying to kill myself while I grab some air. Now only if Catherine can catch the 30 Sec of me before I crash and burn over cranked that would be awesome.

Can't wait to see the release.

Ron

Oki Steve, you're right !
I may be not the first guy but I'm tring to contribute to involve RED technology for surfing and kitesurfing movie. So i'll glad to meet you per skype : neeko.net

Claps,

No question Gibby was first up on the Red u/w and surf scene and with his help (tattoo soon Steve?) we'll do that again with epic. But you're footage is beautiful and look forward to seeing that slo-mo in 5k!

hey claps, the trailer looked awsome. Would be awsome to see it in a none web based video. Please remember this is a real names only forum.

Steve where can we check out all of your movies you have produced?

By personal choice I don't produce "movies" (narrative cinema) - but also by personal choice I've produced, directed, and/or shot several hundred international and national (USA) television programs. The genres I've traditionally worked in have been adventure travel, alternative sports, nature, music, cultures, and documentaries in various genres. These TV programs aired on NBC, National Geographic, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports Net, Palladia, Animal Planet, Spike, OLN, SPEED, UPN, Fuel, Prime Sports Network, DISH, Comcast, and many other networks.

I've been fortunate to have worked worldwide. Here are some samples of what I've been doing in recent years with Red cameras:

If you follow my posts here on Red User, a few months ago I was on location on the coast of Chile doing some Red nature documentary work when the earthquake and tsunamis struck. I just barely survived it. Immediately after that I was a DP for the 7 Red camera HDTV and Blu Ray production in Seattle of the classic rock band Heart in concert.

As another example, last year I worked in the Philippines as a DP for the 10 Red camera HDTV and Blu Ray production of the classic rock band Journey in concert. That HDTV program has been airing on Palladia HD, and the Blu Ray should be out shortly.

In 2008 I spent a large part of the year on location in Alaska working as one of the Executive Producers for a blue chip wildlife documentary named "Icy Killers", which aired multiple times internationally and nationally (USA) on National Geographic Channel.

If you do a Google or Bing search for "Steve Gibby" you'll get many pages of returns, samples, and references to my work. You won't find an iMDB profile for me, because iMDB (Internet Movie Data Base) is concentrated on movie production credits, and as stated earlier I do TV, not movies. My career was in full bloom long before there was even an Internet, much less an iMDB web site - thus I've never needed to maintain a profile there to help market my services.

On my web site you can find many examples of my work - though my web site is in serious need of updating. In my Artbeats Red footage library you can find tons of examples of my Red camera footage, which is licensed regularly for TV and movie projects. There are links to my web site and my Artbeats Red footage library in my signature below this post.

If you've watched each of the Red company demo reels from their first one onward, there have been multiple examples of my Red camera work in them.

TV programs aren't like movies, in that most TV programs don't go to DVD or Blu Ray - they air, re-air, then disappear into the network archives. Thus the bulk of my past work isn't viewable online. The networks own most of the the programs I've done, and its up to them if and when they re-air them.

I have two very cool new TV series in development which I'll independently produce under my own brand, then syndicate for airing. They will be shot using a combination of Epic and Scarlet cameras. I'll post info on those series sometime in the near future - when the time is right.

Since alternative sports is the subject matter of this thread, and some here are curious about my past work, here is just a partial sampler of some of the international and national alternative and mainstream sports TV programs and series I've contributed to as a producer, director, editor, and/or cameraman:

I'm also an invited judge each year for multiple national Emmy Award competitions: Sports Emmy Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, and the News & Documentary Emmy Awards. The cool thing about judging those award competitions is I get the chance to closely analyze what everyone considers their very best work. Just last month I judged some of the Nature categories in the News & Documentary Emmy Awards. As and artist myself I learn a lot in the judging process.

And many, many more…a grand total of somewhere over 500 sports programs. In recent years I've been concentrating more into the other genres I work in - nature, music, cultures - in which I've contributed work to a few hundred more TV programs - but sports television production will always be something I'm involved with. Epic and Scarlet figure deeply into my future plans in all these genres, including sports...:)

Thanks Michael! Early in my career I set a goal of figuring out how to make a living in televising genres that reflect my own lifestyle. I've always participated in sports, loved being out in nature, listened to cool music, and been fascinated by cultures. I been way fortunate to have made a living at my own lifestyle interests. If someone does something they love, and do it well enough for long enough, the financial rewards inevitably come.

I believe everyone starting out in the media production industry should analyze what they like to do in their time off - then figure out how to make a living at that!

Back to the thread subject though - the thread starter's concept and demo reel reflect a sensitivity to the soul and aesthetics of the kite surfing lifestyle. The reel has a "core" feeling to it. Their end product, whether it be a movie or TV program, will be very good. I can tell that from the trailer...their hearts are into the effort, and they deeply understand the essence of the sport.

Sounds cool Steve - look forward to hearing about them.

Thank you for the kind words, and for asking about work. I don't have any job openings right now, but that could change quickly. Please email me some info about you, and I'll definitely keep you in mind looking forward.
