I'm confused, or did I sleep through something?

Last year we were all presented with Epic and all the modules and various configurations. They stuck out behind the camera, what, 10-12"? Now we're presented with a slew of new accessories, none of which are shown accompanying the modules. We had a memory module, but maybe that's supplanted now by the SSD's. But what about the power module? Or is that dead and we're back to Red bricks? I recall a third module, but I forgot what that was all about. (Probably GPS security with purple dye canister)

I'd also be a bit more comfortable if the Red photographer would take shots of the right side of the camera with all those accessories and modules attached. I would like to see how all those sound, monitor and FIZ cables fit into or around this little box.

Everyone is enjoying themselves with all the new bits and bobs, but it's no secret that the module everyone is really waiting for is the pro I/O module. As of yet I have not heard anything, but I am sure we will. Looking at Action Products stuff, I kind of wish / hope RED relooks at the Pro I/O module since I think it could be done a little better.

I hadn't heard of that Epic i/o plate, so I looked it up.

I want to like it ... but I don't.

It's better than the existing Epic i/o plate ... but just barely. It doesn't seem worth $985 either. $500 at most.

For what its worth, I really want a RGB module, so I can turn an Epic into a super Alexa if need be, but I'd like to be able to record 4K, 3K, 2K or 1080p scaled images as my workflow demands. (Cineform recording?? Some RED RGB codec?)

I'd also love the h.264 proxy module RED talked about a while ago.

Agreed. These, along with a "Wireless HDMI/HD-SDI Module" would open up the Epic to a world of applications.

We know. Everyone wants everything we said before and everything that is missing. Now. Of course you do. We do too.

It is a miracle that big projects are being shot by happy customers with a brain, an SSD and an LCD. "Best images I ever shot". John Schwartzman.

The glass half full or half empty? Maybe somewhere in between?

We wish that every EPIC and accessory was shipped two years ago. No backorders. Everyone happy. For now, you'll just have to live with "we are truly doing our best".

No question Jim. I'm working with my Epic-M and the glass is not just half full it's overflowing! Were all just really really thirsty for the full monty version of the best cinema camera that's ever been made.

Ha ... Jim sometimes you are too sensitive.

Our cups aren't half full. They are overflowing with goodness springing forth from Red!

We know you are doing your best, and for the record your best is far and away the best in the industry. We all know that too.

When I post to one of these threads with my stupid wish lists ... I don't expect an answer from the top dog. I don't expect an answer at all!

I expect someone over there at Red will just note the requests, shuffle them into piles and get back to work on something I probably didn't think of that will blow our minds. Again.

So, I do have a serious request: Have some confidence in the fact that you have created the best camera system on the planet.

Every Epic M owner I know already has more than a little swagger.

So, you do what you do ... we'll just babble along like we do waiting for the next Red hotness.

I'm feeling that I really like what I am seeing.

I like the small form factor and how much was built into the brain. The brain and side handle offer up options for just about every situation.

EPIC seems more like what I imagined RED One was going to be.

The more I see this little box the less I want to add modules. So many third party solutions are excellent and well thought out and RED are adding more.

The modules might make the camera balance a bit better, but the beauty is that is the highest quality imagery ever in something that feels like 16mm documentary set up.

I know the modules are coming and they will add functionality for specific situations but I'm going to be hard pressed to add too much to that perfect little 5k brain.

Please allow me to give you my opinion. EPIC far exceeds any of our original expectations. It is a miracle. Really. There are no heat issues. The DR is more than we expected. The highlight rolloff is actually a big surprise.

I guess we shake our head if we feel this part is over-looked. We have so much to do and so many great ideas and stuff in the works. But the foundation is complete. Better than we ever dreamed. The combination of resolution, dynamic range, frame rates, "feel", package size, price and features has just never been done like this before. Nothing close.

So when we get "picking posts" it is a bit demoralizing... even though you don't mean it.

Everyone at RED is working so hard to deliver to you guys...

Jim

I just want to say THANK YOU, JIM JANNARD!!!!!!! For having a vision when no one else did and bringing us all into that vision with a camera that is revolutionizing the film industry! In twenty years, all the kids going to "film" school won't even know what film is. They will all be using digital cinema cameras, all because of a man with a vision... to start a company like no other.... and to bring a camera like no other to the masses! Again I thank you. I'm glad I've gotten to see this happen from the start. One day I'll tell my grand kids, I bought a RED One when everyone thought it was a scam. Now just let me buy some stock in you guys, and I'll be able to pay for their college!

This

Is the main reason I'm in for an epic-x or m (as soon as I find a more compliant banker or another partner)

The CEO here doesn't shield himself from the plebes with 4 layers of minions. I doubt he's on the golf course while some worker bees deal with the merde. And there's not too many bosses that deal personally every day with their clients, let alone random internet guys!

Hey Jim. I'm pretty sure people didn't mean to demoralize you guys in any way. Thing is we all have different needs; not all of us do cinema-style shooting all the time so everyone is looking to get the best 'Swiss-army-knife'-camera they can get at the most affordable price-tag. So please bare with us for wishing in east and west :-)

I got my EPIC-M this week and am very happy with it!
Of course it is hart to wait for us, especially for the Canon Mount,
but what RED has created here is a miracle. I LOVE what you do!

No problems with our M in terms of its abilities as a camera WHATSOEVER.

Having said that, the HDSDI out (and even power to some extent) are tricky to get at, especially once its rigged up to stuff.

Really looking forward to some sort of side access I/O module.

Thanks again for such an amazing camera.

+1
like you said connecting HD-SDI output pain in the ass while after you load epic with all accessories.

That my be true, but I love working with the mini Monty version too, I can shoot my Epic in the palm of my hands if I need too. Small is beautiful.

Jim J: You didn't answer my question. Are modules still coming or have they been supplated by something else? Your skin has worn too thin. Nothing mean spirited in my post. How can I logically determine if any of your new toys work for me until I know what else goes with the camera so I can anticipate possible configurations. You clearly have Redusers out there that buy every bell and whistle you produce regardless of whether or not they need it (or think they need it). I did that with Red One and I still have items still in their Red plastic bags or boxes, all unused. I'm not making this mistake with Epic.

So, are there modules still planned? What are they and what will they look like. Can you take dummies and attach them to an Epic so I/we can see how they might work with a fully packaged Epic instead of a single Epic cube? This is with and without the new accessories. NOTE: I have not asked for timing. I have not asked for prices. All I'm asking for a view of the configurations, preferrably with all the usual cables attached. And none of these requests demean the Red Team, Epic, or you personally.

I'm surprised that some people - who might even be working in the very collaborative business of filmmaking - still don't get this! The endless and pointless bickering (that is totally uncalled for btw) is getting redundant - and that's just me talking. Now, how do you think RED feels about gettin' hit, again and again and again...?!

The way they do business - which I have great respect and admiration for - makes them quite vulnerable. Please, don't take advantage of that - that's just beneath anyone...

Sorry for the rant. Jim, guys at RED - You are f*#king AWESOME!!!!!!!!
