Having problems with the touch sensitivity of the EPIC LCD.
At least 50% of the time it doesn't respond to touch.
I'll get into a menu selection and it will lock up and no amount
tapping the screen will advance me to the next selection.
The tap and hold technique rarely results in the desired
outcome. Only way out is to shut down the camera and reboot.

i think it an absolute necessity to have a hardware interface
to access menus and choices. Relying on the touch screen
is, so far, not as reassuring or dependable, as I had hoped.

The REDMOTE is great, as long as it keeps connected, but it
doesn't access the deeper menus, at least as far as I've been
able to discover.

Anyone else having this problem?

Has very little to do with the lock sign [padlock symbol].
Example: yesterday I was trying to reassign a roll number to a REDMAG.
Once I started to tap on a new number the screen refused to continue beyond that point.
Only thing I could do was shut down and reboot.

I'm beginning to wonder if the physiology of one's fingertips [moisture content of the skin] , heat [it's incredibly hot here in Dallas] or other environmental factors have anything to do with the screen's sensitivity?

This opens up a real opportunity for third party fingertips...

I can verify that the screen can be touchy (!) about who is using it. Frustratingly for my colleague Fernando his fingers are apparently to be ignored, while mine work every time. The touch screen is better than many that I've used, but to be honest is nonetheless a little frustrating at times. Apple have spoilt us all with their exemplary iphone and ipad screens which are essentially flawless in responsiveness and usability... Anything less in terms of response, interface refresh and accuracy feels poor, which is unfair to what is really a substantial leap forward in the Red camera interface.

FWIW my fingertips are available wet hire only - they're no good without their operator ;)

Problem partially solved....
I misted my fingertips with liquid from a small glass cleaner bottle and it improved the responsiveness, but the system still will lag or not respond to multiple taps after it hangs.
Reinforces my impression there needs to be a 'back door' into all the menus that does not rely solely on the touch screen.

The touch screen can indeed be picky. A lot of times it can feel "slugish" and not quite respond properly (or ignore some taping). I'm hoping this will improve overtime. I find myself trying to avoid using the touch screen and just using the side handle to navigate the menus as it's more responsive.
(I guess we are all a little spoiled due to the nice responsiveness of iPad/android tablets and phones... ;) )

I've found the optimal way of using the TouchScreen LCD is by using your thumb, and by touching the bottom half of where you would think you should be touching in the first place.

Hopefully that makes sense? Let me know how it goes...

Are you telling me that there is NO menu navigation other than the touchscreen???
That needs to be remedied. The epic is a professional motion picture product, not some smart phone for housefraus...
Red Team? Any input to help our friend? There must be another menu control.
Cheers,
Harry

Yes, the redmote is there as well.....don't freak! redmote works just fine. in fact so good..

Harry, this is NOT correct. The menus can be navigated with the touch screen, with the side handle, and with the Redmote. My current favorite is the side handle, but I have no problems with the touchscreen at all (or the Redmote for that matter). But all three devices CAN navigate ALL of the camera's menus.

Ah. Good.
Now if I could only get mine...
Cheers,
H.

I use a bamboo stylus or pogo sketch for the iPad with the epic touchscreen and it works really well. Also your screen stays clean :)

IMPRESSED - touchscreen sensitivity

IMPRESSED - touchscreen sensitivity

So, upon getting my Epic and touchscreen in may...had to send the LCD back since it had issues day one....RED graciously supplied me with a loaner touchscreen...and i was always having problems with it and having to touch a function 3-5 times to get it to work. TODAY, just got my touchscreen back--or rather i just got back from Mexico and picked it up in San Diego...it's been here over a month....

WoW....the sensitivity on this thing is UNREAL....i mention this since i had a very unresponsive touchscreen loaned to me from RED...so all of my first impressions were from that "unresponsive" touch LCD.....mine is now working as it should and i'm now back to being impressed with something i was not impressed with originally......NICE!

Interesting to hear that not all of the touch screens have the same sensitivity level out of the box, I thought it was just my fingers.

Capacitive stylus (velcroed to the top of the LCD so its handy) saved me, and has the added benefit of keeping the screen clean.

Agree that the side handle is wicked fast.

Cheers - #19

Interesting Johnny! Would you say the new touchscreen is as responsive as an iPhone? It'd be good to have a commonly available point of reference.
